beerme420 (50), Corona, California, USA Aug 26, 2007 excellent beer nice brown color...coffee aroma with a hoppy finish. great body and full of flavor nramsburg (200), New York, New York, USA Aug 26, 2007 Updated: Jan 22, 2008It’s amazing to me how balanced this beer is. While at first pour its opacity is almost shockingly evident, it’s not at all heavy or overbreaing on the palate. Instead, what one finds is a fruity, malty, smoky beer with just a touch of the fairly high alcohol on the finish. A previous rater has, righfully, compared it to the DFH worldwide stout, but I have to say that this beer is infinitely more drinkable without any sort of cellaring. A solid and complex beer. Flyer (118), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA Aug 21, 2007 An amazing beer. The aroma and the intial taste impressions remind me of DFH Worldwide Stout (and while I love the latter beer and its 18% abv, this was nicely alcoholic but still drinkable) -- notes of port wine and intense, fruity maltiness. The long middle was like a topflight brown ale, and the finish was surprisingly hoppy for a beer of this style (which is not to say hoppier than most, but hoppy for the style). One of the best beers I’ve had in a while. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 21, 2007 Pours as dark as midnight in the Sahara, with a sandy colored creamy head to boot. Chocolate, fresh roasted coffee and wood notes on the notes. Chocolatey , coffee nibs cake mixed with the lightest touch of bourbon. Creamy, full bodied mouth feel that seems to be the beer that drinks like a meal. Very long, hoppy and roasted finish. Damn nice beer, and in my mind, under appreciated. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA Aug 19, 2007 Updated: Jan 4, 2008Pours dark brown to black, completely opaque and creates a beautiful, thick, coffee-colored head. Coffee malt aroma and rich, chocolaty malt flavors. Way full-bodied. Bitterness up front turning into rich bitter chocolate. A rich and delicious dessert. GRM (1235), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Aug 16, 2007 Brown bottle, 1 pint 6 ounces, savoured on Elvis’ 30th death anniversary; eye: black as oil coming out of the oil pan, opaque, no effervescence, coffee head, a bit of lacing; nose: vanilla, roasted malt, black chocolate, dark small berries, light tobacco, burnt toast; mouth: sticky, thick, acrid roasting, vanilla, sugar, black chocolate, good long finale that is well balanced between the roasted malt and the hops with a hint of acridness, light astringency, more bitter than I expected, full body, not much carbonation; overall: quite enjoyable
