Commercial Description:
Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, jerc, mabel, mds and tupalev - my bottle via trade with DarkElf - DarkElf+ Fest ’07!!. Poured opaque brown-black, small tan head. Roasty , aroma, oily, slightly tart, thick and sweet, hint of lactose. Taste - very dark, oily, nutty and roasty, alcohol really comes out - nice!. Thick, slick, smooth - astringent and longish almost burnt aftertaste. Excellent - slightly impy, very roasty and somewhat boozy.

This American Strong Ale pours a deep brown color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to small sized tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, dark chocolate with a touch of alcohol and coffee. A medium to full bodied American Strong Ale. Malts are fruity, malty and sweet. Hops are piney and earthy. Lots of flavors here, dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malts, piney hops and some alcohol mix and match in an interesting flavor combo. Subtle carbonation. Nice balance. 6 month of bottle aging has mellowed this beer quite a bit. Very smooth and fairly thick, it does resemble that 30 weight they mention on the label. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is dry and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter with some noticeable alcohol.

Very dark brown not quite black, brown head. Sweet malty aroma with very mild alcohol and extremely muted roast. Can’t place it but I quite like the aroma. Lovely sweet malt, sumptuous caramel gives way to gruff boozy bitter finish. Smooth average to medium palate suits the beer. (3+) Really liked this but the boozy finish is so bracing it is distracting. <P>"Finish your beer $#!+knuckle!" - MDS

Bottle consumed next to the older viscosity. Pours a dark brown amber body with a tan head. Vanilla, licorice, alcohol latent fruits, light sugar with a thick viscous body. Lightly roasty with woody notes. Good brew but not on part with the older viscosity.

This is the second time I have blind tasted this brew. As written last time, I would have liked to re-rate this brew, and I guess Papsoe made that possible. Once again thanks Henrik.

#10 [Blind tasting @ Papsoe] Small creamy light brown head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Very dark mahogany coloured. Initial sniff gives the impression of vanilla, roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, rye bread. Very vinous with bourbon and oak feel. Also some underlying hoppy notes. Full bodied with an alcoholic texture and an average carbonation. Heavy sweet flavour with light bitter notes. Lingering bitter finish. Quit nice. 4 / 8 / 8 / 4 / 16 = 4.0

First rating 26-03-2007 3.5 Bottle. [Blind tasting session @ Sk8viking] #4 Small light brown head that mostly diminished. Colour was dark brown. Aroma was molasses, chocolate, roasted, plum, date, wood, smoke, brown sugar. Medium to full bodied with a flat carbonation. Flavor was moderated with light notes of bitterness. Like sunevdj said, a bit like a sweet stout. Think I need to re-rate this one if I get the chance.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation dark ruby red brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was brown malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of dark malt soflty smoky and mild brown malt.

(Bottled) Very dark reddish brown with a small, tanned, lasting head. Aroma of pretty strong alcohol, licorice, and lightly roasted malt. Roasted-malty flavor with licorice and (again) somewhat alcoholic feel. Medium-bodied, slicky palate with quite low carbonation. Quite a disappointment from this fine brewery: too alcoholic and burned to be enjoyable.
