Definitely not your Dad’s Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that’s as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Smells like roasted grain with a hint of cocoa coffee. Lighter on the palate than expected. A hop bite after some smokey roasted malt. Very flavorful. Probably best described as a porter. But has enough hop bite for the black ipa category. A good changeup from overly sweet stouts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle (22oz $6.50): Color black with two finger light brown head the disapeears leaving lacing. Did not get a lot of armonas. Taste is strong roasted chocolate and a little bit of coffee. Little sweetness. Seemed similar to an imperial stout.

Pours pitch black with a beautiful head. Aroma: chocolate, espresso, raisins, with a touch of alcohol. Taste: very well balance between the coffee (sourness) and chocolate (sweetness) with some alcohol (generally well hidden 10% ABV). The beer is pretty thick although I have expected more thickness from "motor oil" (as advertised on the cover). Generally this is a very good beer. Something between a strong ale and a russian imperial stout. I was expecting it to have more features of the latter and therefore was a bit disappointed. On the other hand that was not a wise expectation since there is not a single word on the cover mentioning it is a RIS.

At a tasting, many thanks DSG, zvikar and Ariel, big bubbly light brown head, quite dense with lots of carbonation, almost completley opque black colour, aroma of milk chocolate and dark malt, with cocoa and a hint of roastiness, roasty flavour with some coffee, quite sour, needs a little more sweetness to balance, rquite easy to drink and just a little simple. Good and interesting but not too exciting..

Aroma: coffee and toasted malts. Appearance: black, beige, small head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: light vanilla coming up, intense caramel, toasted malts. Overall: very interesting American Strong Ale, almost though this more an Imperial Stout. Pint at Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, San Marcos.

650 ml bottle shared @ The Local Pub, Athens Greece. Pitch-black color with a big brown head. Aromas of coffe, dark chocolate, oak and dark berries. Bittersweet taste, with coffee, chocolate and oak up front, followed by burnt caramel, dark fruits, liquorice, some roasted notes and some alcohol. Very nice aftertaste, lingering. Full body with low to medium carbonation.
