3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smells like roasted grain with a hint of cocoa coffee. Lighter on the palate than expected. A hop bite after some smokey roasted malt. Very flavorful. Probably best described as a porter. But has enough hop bite for the black ipa category. A good changeup from overly sweet stouts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Funny why this beer is in this category cause to mee it is typical stout or strong porter with roasted backbone and hoppy side effects. Pours opaque black with tan-brown thick top. On nose dominant roasted malts plus some herbal hops touch at the end. Taste is average+ bitter, almost no sweetness to me. Medium to full bodied, dry finish. Casual stout with well hidden degree of alcohol.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber into tulip. Darkest brown; thick, poofy mocha head. Smells of dark chocolate, marzipan, leather, metal shavings, cherry and blackberry. Predominant dark ryebread and charred plum flavorÖ hugely roasty, bitter black malt, plasticy phenols and solventlike alohol. A bit one-dimensional. Whereís the oak? Creamy, sugary palate. Espresso finish. Why isnít this called imperial stout? Totally off the mark for ASA. In pursuit of a super black, super alcohol beer, some quality was lost.

Bottle at Craftheads. Big night... Dark brown black, golden bubbly head. Aroma is oaty, smoke and spice, darkness, whiff of booze, black treacle.
Taste is lovely. Treacle, chocolate, cocoa, bit of coffee, smoky, oats. Finish is dry and long. Lots of malt. Really nice. Smooth and dangerous, quite thick. When it warms, more bitter. Nice. Light sweetness.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22oz bottle at the Kernel, Paul tasting. Thanks to Leoghton for sharing this one. Roasted malt aroma with a slight hint of bourbon or brandy. Black in color with a tan head. Very full palate adds to the experience. Tangy and bitter roasted malt taste hits first followed by solid chocolate hints and roasted coffee flavors as well. Very good.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: near black, with a shirt, light tan head and oily legs. Aroma: burnt coffee beans, bitter chocolate, port, and some raisin. Taste: bitter chocolate, herbal astringency, some cherry, espresso, hint of molasses and bourbon. Finish: finishes oily, with a cough-syrup like medicinal booze note vying with burnt coffee for dominance. Notes: Meh. Iím not sure I see what all the fuss is about. Big and boozy, but not balanced, with the burny, oily, and medicinal notes most prominent.

Bottle. Terrific beer, unsurprisingly. Rich aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, mild hops. Taste is very smooth at first but slowly reveals a great bitter edge, with plenty of roasty flavours, coffee and hops.
