Commercial Description:
Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

served cold from 22 oz. bottle. first of all, i’m shocked that i even found this, considering how quickly it always sells out from the two local stores where one might find it. as for the beer, it pours an oily jet black with a thick tan-colored head and great lacing. technically it’s not a stout, but who is to say, really? the aroma isn’t as overpowering as i was expecting, but it’s got noticeable chocolate notes and roasted coffee as well. maybe even a hint of bourbon? the flavor is flush with chocolate, coffee, and perhaps some wood from the barrels. it is super-creamy, and easy to drink. the finish is sweet, with a slight lasting flavor of bourbon. a wonderful beer.

22oz. bottle, has to be well over a year old now. Roasty, dark, sweet malt aroma, with appetizing notes of chocolate truffle, plummy fruit, lightly smoky wood, maple sugar and very faint bourbon, along with some background coffee and slight medicinal alcohol. Now this stuff really is the consistency of well-used motor oil, there have been other brews to cross my path and lay that claim and they’ve fallen short, but not this one. Head fades to nothingness after a short period, while the bottom of the bottle is coated with sediment after the pour. Flavor profile is dark and roasty to start, becoming sweetier and blended with berryish fruit and licorice, finishing with a blend of earthy bitterness, slight bourbon, aged wood, toffee, gentle but insistent alcohol and lingering espresso. Very smooth and low in effervescence on the palate but has a full, sticky, warming mouthfeel to it and a massively rich body. Very interesting, tasty and complex, ultimately, with some Imperial Porter-like characteristics. Nice.

22oz bottle. Settles black in the glass after poured dark, dark brown out of the bottle. Head is tan and dense, but dissipates quickly to a ring leaving a little bit of lacing. The smell is big and get bigger as it warms - caramel malts, raisins, figs, some dark chocolate, brown sugar and licorice. On top of this is the hint of oak and booze in the background that burns the nose ever so slightly. Taste is a slightly harsher version of the aroma with a big roasted character on top of the malt background and dark fruit flavors. Coffee and chocolate are present as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation and fairly dry in the finish. Drikability is slightly limited by the harsher character of the taste. Still, this is tasty and complex brew from a great brewery. Recommended.

Pours dark brown with a small, light brown head with ok lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, plums, and rasins. The flavor is of bitter black coffee with notes of chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and wood (oak.) Starts somewhat sweet but finishes bitter. The texture is creamy. Somewhat harsh at first but once I got used to it, it was heavenly. Overall i’d say its a good beer with a very aggressive flavor: not for beginners.

2008 Bottle - Pours dk brown, motor oil, decent brown head...aroma is brown sugar malt, oak and a bit of smoke...flavour blew me away, terrific balance of bitter/malt/alcohol...didn’t even know it was 10% until afterwards...my first taste of Pizza Port and set the bar unbearably high...

Tasted @ the Uber Tavern in Seattle.
Black colored brew. Chocolate malts, dark fruits in the aroma. Oak, bourbon, chocolate malts, coffee and roasted, smoked flavor. Smooth and creamy. Nice.
