4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAY 19, 2014 Appearance= oil. Pitch black, nothing escaping at all. Not much head, just a mocha coloured rim around the edge. Alcohol legs definitely detectable. Aroma- vanilla, leather hints, a bit of coffee but more chocolatey , burnt sugar, toasted coconut, bitter chocolate, bourbon, boozy, cocoa hints, fudge. Smells lovely. Taste- intense, and big flavours hit you. Lots of chocolate, burnt treacle, the bourbon then comes through with vanilla hints, plenty of bitterness, chocolate fudge cake, sticky and slightly oily mouthfeel, with some alcohol warmth- you can tell it’s a big beer. The finish lingers for ages and clings to the mouth. Some espresso characteristics towards the end. Very viscous (unsurprisingly). The carbonation is quite soft, and maybe a bit more would help things along, but this is pretty much the only criticism. This is a superb brew.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
2012 bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Pours black with a very thin lace of beige head that disappears fast. Amazing aromas of oak, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and coffee. Taste is also fantastic with vanilla from bourbon in the front and oak and chocolate to follow strong. Licorice and full bodied. Bittersweet aftertaste and low carbonation. Really amazing brew !!!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
4yr old bottle, 2010. Pours very dark with a brown mocha head that quickly dissolved. The aroma is of oak, carmel malts, vanilla, and a medium intensity of sweet bourbon booze. The older viscosity has a very good aroma. Tasting this brew I noticed a pleasant bourbon flavor with mild chocolate notes, vanilla, sugary carmel sweetness, soft dark fruit character, and a nice lightly roasted malt taste. The finish has a bitter sweet flavor that is overwhelmed by a pleasant boozy taste. Overall this is a very solid beverage and I enjoyed the barrel aged version over the old viscosity but just slightly. I would have this beverage again.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black with a thin tan head.
Aroma of bourbon and some chocolate.
Bourbon comes first on the taste and is followed by dark chocolate and a surprising faint tartness at the end. More chocolate on the finish.
Some carbonation and a long lasting mouthfeel. This is a good one.
Almost like a BBA stout, but with some slight differences. This is a fantastic beer. The tartness is perfectly balanced with the chocolate and bourbon. I could drink a bunch of these. Glad I randomly decided to grab the last bottle at my local bottle shop.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured at a tasting, a black with little head on the sides of glass, minimal to no lace. The aroma is fantastic, the bourbon oak being the biggest of a complex aromas. Vanilla, roasted malts and licorice being others. The taste was bourbon and licorice with oak and vanilla. This was a heavy thick one, perfectly named, and warming in the finish. Fantastic.

Black, tan head. Big thick viscous mouthfeel with deep malt character of dark bread, licorice, roast, caraway seeds, nutty notes, big bourbon barrel character. Huge and complex and aptly named.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013 vintage from Jerrys, Chicago. Black, no head, motor oil pour. Big bourbon quality to aroma. Taste is bourbon, but though sweet not sickly on finish. As it warms the abv comes out far more clearly. Also the flavours are a touch medicinal which is off-putting. Finish is a mild bitter astringency and bourbon. Nice beer, better than the base product, but still a little dull sadly.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very dark and heavy, like the bottle says, "not your dad's 30 weight!".
No head, barrel flavor forward with sweet mouthfeel. Nice aftertaste. Not to smokey.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and toasted malts. A creamy deep brown pour with a tan ring and limited lacing. The taste is…AMAZING! Chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, hints of dark fruit, and oak. Full body and medium carbonatin. Rich, creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this is an exceptional beer. It has it all, a complex palate and a full bodyied creamy mouthfeel. Beer heaven.
