Opaque black stout. Light palate, dry and a little soft. The barrelling dominates. Dry wood and the barest hint of vanilla. Sourish tangy dark malt. Warming dry finish. Nice enough but a little too wood dominated.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2010 Bottle at home ... deep black ... medium tan head ...rich sweet meaty malt nose with a little whiskey ... big bourbon front... too much bourbon ... it domintaes way to much and distroys its balance... behind the bourbon is a decent rich roast malt. 3.7

Bottle, 12.7 fl oz, at Cardinal. Itís a rather flat one, without head, just some dark beige bubbles around the rim, black in color. Licorice, booze, roasted malts, dried fruits like prunes and figs, soy sauce and some umami in the aroma. The flavor is quite sweetish, with some soy sauce, licorice, booze and dried fruits. Itís full-bodied, warming and soft on the palate, with nice carbonation. Lasting finish with sweetness and lots of flavor. Some warmth. Wonderfully heavy bottle, sort of sexy... Anyway, itís a wonderful beer. 121022

Bottle thanks to Steptin at ACBF í11. Black colour no head. Lots of vanilla burnt toffee oak all on aroma. No balance at all. No real beer aroma. Quite smooth in mouth. Too oaky burn and vanilla. Just too much. Coulnt finish my glass. Not enough original beer comes through. Too much barrel agsd flavour.

Bottled vintage 2009
Opaque black, no head. Aroma has raisins and portwine, like in the aged BW, but this is only one year old. Also some licorice and Bourbon. Full-bodied. Lots of vanilla, whiskey, licorice and raisins in the flavor. Of course also some alcohol. Smooth palate. Interesting, sweetish-salty beer.

12.7oz bottle-pours a retaining thin brown head with good retention for alcohol and black color. Aroma is dark malt-licorice/some chocolate, sharp-acidic, wood-bourbon, tar, some dark fruit. Smells awesome but occasional for my preference. Taste is first carbonation on the tongue with a hops bite, then dark malt-licorice/some chocolate/coffee, sharp-acidic, wood-bourbon, tar, some dark fruit. Occasional, but nice.
