3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 SlackerMads (533) - - JAN 29, 2013Bottle (vintage 2011) shared with pentaz, who stopped by to empty the fridge. Dark brown with a small light brown head that quickly leaves without a trace. Aroma is chocolate and caramel syrup, oak, bourbon. A bit rough with alcohol, roasted malt and salty liqourice towards the finish. Taste is heavy sweet, light salty, full body, oily texture, near flat carbonation. Long developing aroma that most of all ends up in bourbon, oak, vanilla. Bourbon brew.

2012 Vintage Bottle. 5/17/13. Pours black with a thin brown head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, fruit, licorice, molasses, chocolate, spicy. Taste is bourbon, alcohol, fruit, vanilla, caramel, coffee, butty, dark chocolate; bitter coffee finish. No lacing. Rich, full mouth feel. Medium-low carbonation. Alcohol very well-hidden. This was fantastic. One of the smoothest rides I’ve had, especially considering the ABV. This is incredible.

2013 vintage bottle. 12% ABV, really? No way, it’s boozy but I would not guess it. Big vanilla and oak nose. Maybe some brown sugar, chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Reminds me of an imperial stout. I was expecting a thicker velvety finish, a bit thin. Still an awesome beer.

On tap at Hops and Pie so 12/13 vintage. Boozy hot bourbon nose with vanilla and some dark malts. Slightly translucent at edges and not as thick as I was expecting. I honestly think I prefer Old Viscosity to this....will need to revisit that one cause it’s been a while. Flavors of vanilla, bourbon, coconut, and dark malt. Good but not complex and a bit thin.

Trade from burg at the Swamp Head release. Thanks! Pours black with no head, not as thick as a stout but not thin either. Big bourbon vanilla aroma with some black licorice and chocolate. Thick velvety mouthfeel with nearly no carbonation at all. Thicker than it looked on the pour wow. Big sweet vanilla oak. Lots of bourbon. Definite bit of licorice and hints of cocoa. Lingering and long ladting vanilla on the palate. Lots going on here and a surefire sipper. Old Viscosity was decent, but this really takes it to a new level. Awesome beer.

12.7oz Bottle. Pours a thick (5W30) opaque blackish brown (more black than brown), thin espresso colored head (more like a film) . Nose is bourbon barrel, vanilla, dried fruit (figs and dates dominant). Mouth is thick and oily (what’d ya expect?), bittersweet and full of boozy goodness, toffee, cocoa, vanilla, coffee. The ABV in this is well hidden. Delicious.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Daytonbeer (391) - Ohio, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Pours black with tan head and some lacing. Aroma of cinnamin, cough syrup, and soy sauce. Taste is complex with dark fruit, bourbon, booze, and more cough syrup. Outstanding beer.

Pours black with off white head. Aromas of oak and mild bourbon with flavors to follow. Not a bad ba strong ale.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 DocJitsu (307) - California, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Opaque very dark brown with a mocha colored head. Nice chocolate liqueur and a bit of coconut nose. Viscous, chewy moutfheel with a bi of carbonation sting on the back if the tongue that is exacerbated by some hop hotness and then, alcohol warmth. A ton of chocolate and smooth vanilla yield to extraordinary booziness. All except for that alcohol that appears so obtrusively at the finish, this is a remarkably good beer.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 adamjackson (1230) - Lyme, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Completely black pour 2 finger brown head. Pretty sticky. Cinnamon and brown sugar. Loads of vanilla on the nose. Hint of oak. Taste is very sweet. Boozy burn at the finish. Tasted like a blend of stout and barley wine. Pretty exceptional.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 tdmuel (85) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 2, 2013
Pitch black pour with an almost non-existent light brown head. Nose is dominated by the vanilla, caramel and oak from the barrel, boozy notes, there’s some milk chocolate, and dark fruit. Amazing tasting beer, surprising amount of mocha, lots of vanilla and oak notes from the barrel, there’s some bitter chocolate and a bit of caramel. Well balanced, almost no carbonation from the aging though. Great desert beer.
