WeeHeavySD (1699), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jan 12, 2007 Updated: Feb 11, 2008 375 ml. bottle. Purchased at the Source, the beautifally redisgned brewery in San Marcos. Pours black as the darkest night, with a little thin tan head, barely much of a head. The smell is sweet and strong with hints of dried fruit. Very Aromatic. The taste is quite strong sweet and delicious. The alchol is not quite noticeable and the feeling of the brew really feels nice on the back of my throat. I haven’t had the regular Old version in a while, but I remeber it being almost too overwhelming. This brew is well tempered by the barrels and mellowed considerably. It feels almost like a barley wine but not quite. Good work Tomme and the guys at Port, this is a stellar brew.
JMFG (1086), Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 Sampled @ Lost Abbey, RBSG. Black pour, light tan head. Heavy, strong bourbon on the nose, alcohol quite apparent, tannic notes but way in the back. More oaky on the taste, bourbon, tobacco, roast, overall not as brash tasting as the aroma lets on. Very nice, would like to try with a couple years on it. m4rest88 (44), Beverly Hills, California, USA Aug 9, 2008 Aroma that is strong in an alcohol scent - bourbon. Pours with a small, light brown head. The body is a very dark brown almost black. Pretty good beer. Alcohol flavor is a little much, but besides its well deserving of being in the 99th percentile. BMan1113VR (762), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Aug 9, 2008 Bottle at Najas Place. Reminds me a lot of Burbon Angel’s Share. This is REALLY good. Pours thick with a small, creamy light brown head covering a black body. Boozy aroma (brandy or Burbon, with chocolate, oak, dark fruits and cinnamon. Taste is great with chocolate and tons of oak and vanilla. Syrupy with light bubbles. Outstanding! yespr (6162), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 37.5 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a lacing white head. Dense and roasted malt aroma with a light chocolate smoothness. Flavour is smooth and roasted. Chocolate and mild liqourice. Ends light sweet and roasted malt. Lingering finish. The_Epeeist (915), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2008 375 ml bottle. Close to a year in the cellar, batch 1? Ebony with tan bubbles around the edge. Nose is molasses, tar, licorice and alcohol. Medium body but finishes like liquor. Taste is bitter dark chocolate and burnt grapefruit peel. Dries with coffee and bits of licorice. Sharper and more pronounced alcohol than the regular version.
