In my notes I describe the appearance of this beer with one word ... beauty. Very much like the Old Viscosity in its aroma and flavor, but more so on the oak and the bourbon. You must be a bourbon fan to enjoy this beer. But if you are you will love it.

he look is close to advertised...30 weight motor oil, with a touch of head. aroma is sweet bourbon, oak, chocolate, alcohol & coffee. mouthfeel is slick, although just a touch thinner than expected. the flavor is a mix of bourbon, oak, molasses, sweet malt, and some chocolate & coffee. Overall, it was very good, but not quite as complex as I was hoping for. Bourbon fans will love it...I liked it a lot, but at the price, even Bourbon County Stout @$5+ for a 12 oz bottle is a better deal. 7/11 - a couple rturn trips to this beer and i upped it a tenth. old vis is a better deal (more beer for less) but i do like this one more."

Bottle. Pours like used motor oil, thick, very little head, no bubbles. Huge Oak, wood, alcohol nose, dark overripe plumb. Strong warm alcohol taste, wood, and roast and brown sugar notes. Very smooth for such a strong beer.

In short: mighty dark ale.
Pours black with some tan head. Poor head retention, some lacing. Wood, sweet, liquor, caramel, nuts aromas. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, viscous texture. Taste is smooth, liquor, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, wood flavours. Really smooth, well balanced and enjoyable.

Served on-tap at Al’s of Hampden into a Bell’s tulip.

A - Pours jet black with a small half finger tall java colored head, dissipating down to a thin film, leaving spotty sheets of lacing down the glass.

S - Quite a bit of bourbon up front mixes with some sweet chocolate, vanilla, oak/wood, dark roasted malt, and a bit of booze. Pretty well balanced even with all those flavors competing for the lead.

T - Plenty of chocolaty sweetness up front giving way quickly to a mix of bourbon heat, vanilla, and dark roasted malts. Finish is a bit hot with plenty of lingering sweet roast. Nice balance of base flavors and the woody bourbon from the barrel. Very good stuff.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Sweet, roasty, heat both in the feel and the finish.

D - Pretty high all things considered. I have always liked this beer. The combo of dark stout and bourbon is really nice. The only drawback is the high ABV. as it really does prevent you from enjoying multiple servings.

Dark beer, bourbon, vanilla, oak, alcohol. Even though I find it an amazing beer, its not a style I enjoy having in large portions. Its like an excellent alcoholic beverage,

375 ml bottle poured into a snifter. Black with a finger of brown head, slight brownish hue on the edges. Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, oak, a bit of licorice. Tastes of bourbon, dark fruit, chocolate, oak, light caramel/syrup. Full body with a dry and slightly warm finish. Oily, creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Nice stuff.

Bottle shared thanks to Tim and Rachel at Proof happy hour! Pours a motor oil black with little to no head or lacing. Aroma is big on the sweet bourbon barrel goodness, vanilla, oak, chocolate. Taste follows, smooth and rich, thick and chewy. Great barrel qualities, very nice.
