COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged version of Port Brewing Santas Little Helper.
2009 will be the inaugural release of this winter time classic. After brewing the 2008 batch of Santa’s we thought “wonder what this would taste like aged in a bourbon barrel?”

Pours dark with a soapy tan head that fades to a ring with limited lacing. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, and wood. Big chocolate, butterscotch, and bourbon notes in the taste with lighter notes of vanilla, cocoa, and oak. Well balanced and very satisfying.

This brew pours an inky black color with a medium tan head that burns away steadily. Sticky patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roasted malt, bourbon and dark fruit. Full-bodied and slightly over-carbonated with flavors of oaky bourbon, dark malts and vanilla. The finish is boozy with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

December 25, 2014. Bottle at home.
Black with a dense creamy brown head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate, ash and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet with bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, medium bitter with dry ash and dark chocolate. Finish is chocolate, oak, vanilla and bourbon notes with a slight alcohol warmth. Medium to full bodied, average carbonation.

Black with mostly dissipating light brown head. Fantastic bourbon barrel character. Rich chocolate. Soft roasty. Smooth, luscious full body. Pleasant alcohol warmth. Perhaps buries some of the nuances of the base a little deeper, but creates a new experience. Not sticky or sweet. Still finishes dry but adds a cascade of bourbon. Love it.

I feel this one is a lot sweeter than the original, certainty more bold (obviously). A strong bourbon aroma and taste. Strong alcohol aftertaste as well. Chocolate and spices.

12.7 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Black with a just over a finger of tan head. Aromas of bourbon right off the bat, spices, oak, a bit of dark fruit and coconut. Tastes of big bourbon, light spice, oak, subtle dark chocolate. Medium body with a dry and warm finish.

December 24, 2014 - bottle from Everetts. Very dark brown pour with limited head that faded quickly. Aroma was roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla and some smoke/ash. Taste was a little bit sweet initially, then moved into the bourbon (more of a cheaper bourbon flavor) and finished very roasty/ashy. The smoke and ash really stuck around in the aftertaste. I typically like a little of that, but this had just a bit too much. 2011 vintage.

Bottle from Erzbierschof- aged since 2011 in my cellar - Black color with no foam - Aroma of coconuts and brownies, vanilla, bourbon, hints of coffee, roasted malt and soy sauce, incredible nose - Flavor is more chocolate and vanilla, really sweet, oaks and bourbon, good presence of alcohol, dried raisin, amazing - Full body, sweet and silky, flat carbonation, light bitterness, long sweet chocolate vanilla finish - hard to drink becaus it was really sweet, probably a little bit too sweet but incredible beer, the age bring more roundness and rub out the bitterness

Poured from a bomber (unknown when brewed think at least one year old) into a snifter dark opaque with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate slight booze. Flavor is BOOM at the front of the palate with cocoa. Roasted malts with some bourbon. Finish is fast. Not much linger to the palate which can go either way depending on how you like your stouts. For me this particular brew did not disappoint. Very drinkable.

Oh man, what a great beer. Huge stout, lots of carmel and roasted malts. Nice bitterness. Great bourbon and vanilla undertones. Great beer.
