COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged version of Port Brewing Santas Little Helper.
2009 will be the inaugural release of this winter time classic. After brewing the 2008 batch of Santa’s we thought “wonder what this would taste like aged in a bourbon barrel?”

22oz bottle shared during #bottlecherwednesday at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. Poured into tulip. Appearance is black with brown edges and a tan head rises a finger high before collapsing to a film. A little bit of patchy lace sticks to the glass. This beer is a barrel bomb! The aroma is all oak, bourbon, vanilla, and char. One of the other guys mentioned he was getting dog food, and he was right on it. Definitely an animal feed element. Not getting much of the base beer. Taste is a less satisfying version of the nose - lots of bourbon heat, vanilla, oak, and chocolate. Medium-heavy body, oily, creamy, thick texture, average to soft carbonation, hot boozy finish.

12.7 oz bottle. Black pour with a mocha brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, bourbon and dark fruit. Taste is bourbon, roasted malt, dark fruit, vanilla, chalky and chewy. It was a little hot in the finish. Lots of layers of flavor. Beer coats the glass. Nice lacing.

Poured from a 12.7 oz into a snifter on 01.22.15. A: Vanilla and lots of bourbon. Awesome. A: 1 finger tan head that stays. Midnight black body with no red in the glass. T: Bourbon and vanilla dominate. Nuttiness and dark fruit are subtle. P: On the thin side. It would have been nicer with a little more chewiness. Creamy smooth. O: I had a bottle of the base version and it seemed to be infected. This one seemed fine. There was a lot of alcohol bite even for 12% ABV. The bourbon is big and overpowers. It was good, but I probably wouldn’t seek it out again.

375ml bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Thanks George! Black color with dark beige-brown head. Roasted malty aroma, chocolate, dark fruits, raisins, light wood and vanilla notes. Sweet and bitter taste like the aroma. Medium to full oily body with soft carbonation.

22oz bottle pours dark inky brown black with a small finger of tan head. Nose is boozy dark fruit and licorice, charred chocolate, nutty spice, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is burnt roast chocolate, vanilla, nutty, tar, bourbon spice, dark fruit. Finish is roasty charred brownie with vanilla spice and earthy nutty cocoa, hint of oak, bourbon. Good stuff.

Draft at Beer Junction. 2013 edition. Black pour, can definitely taste the age in this beer, it has mellowed out nicely.

Tasted on 1/24/15 from a corked and caged 375mL bottle purchased online through Beverages4Less. Pours opaque black with a thick smooth brown head that leaves thick, smooth lace. The nose is all maple, brown sugar, and sweet vanilla with some dry molasses and a touch of earthiness. The flavor is drier up front, with all of the molasses, dark chocolate, and earth, moving to some of the sweeter bourbon notes of vanilla, maple, and brown sugar, with that same earth providing a bit of bitterness. The body is full but not too fat, with just enough carbonation and a long bourbon and earthy finish.

375ml bottle pours a thick black color with a bit of head. Medium bourbon booziness. A little harsh. Nutty.

22oz bottle with a couple years on it, I think. Dark red-black pour with no head. Pours almost still. Aroma of bourbon and booze, cherries and raisins with more dark dried fruit, some sweet grahams, some honey, and light grain alcohol notes. Flavor is booze and bourbon and rich caramel malts, some sweeter chocolates, and more dark dried fruits... Black licorice just hit me outta nowhere. It’s pretty complex and decently made.

Draught. This is thick wallop of bourboun syrup with roast malts floated over the top.

375ml corked bottle, 2014 vintage. Wonderful aroma full of bourbon, vanilla and oak. Pours inky black with a thin mocha colored head and very little lacing. Starts with chocolate and roasted malt flavors with a rich, full body and mouthfeel. Finishes incredibly smooth with the bourbon, vanilla and oak flavors coming through nicely and lingering on the palate with the slightest hint of booze. Fantastic!
