Barrel-aged version of Port Brewing Santas Little Helper.
2009 will be the inaugural release of this winter time classic. After brewing the 2008 batch of Santa’s we thought “wonder what this would taste like aged in a bourbon barrel?”

A: Huge bourbon aroma upfront with notes of bourbon sweetness, oak, and vanilla followed by coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, dark fruit, and light notes of alcohol. A: Pours opaque black with a smallish brown head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing. T: FAR more complexity than the aroma indicates. Sweet bourbon and oak dominate with chocolate and caramel notes, some roast malt and a big warming alcohol presence. P: Medium-thick body, moderately low carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish. O: This is a solid barrel aged beer. Incredible barrel flavor adds a layer of complexity that complements the base beer and balances the overall flavor, a must try for any fan if this style.

Black pour, tan head, decent lace/retention. Aroma is darker fruit, dried fruit, bourbon barrel, milk chocolate, light roast, light sugar. Medium to full body, flavor is better than the aroma, pleasant but grossly overpriced. There’s so many barrel aged imperials out there now that an $18 price tag for a small bottle is hard to justify for this one.

Bottle purchased at the Hoppy in Thessaloniki - Greece, aged about 3 years. Coffee bean color, dark brown head which recalls the foam of an espresso. Minimal retention, just traces after lowering. Nose: Sweet vanilla, bourbon relevant character, wet wood, sundae, dark fruit. Intensive and nice. Mouth: it seems sipping a whiskey, so much alcohol, warm and a bit over the top. Bummer, because the nose was really promising!

Słodki aromat wanilii, czekolady z alkoholowym bourbonem W smaku pełne, oleiste, słodkie od czekolady i wanilii, posmak lekko kwaśno palony kawowy Bardzo dobre piwo, gdzie beczka dopełnia smak dobrego piwa, a nie dominuje

Deep opaque black-brown, light tan head. Strong bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, molasses, some light chocolate and coffee notes. Quite bitter, very sweet. Heavy body, very upfront alcohol, highly acidic. Very oily. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
