3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Like so many of previously mentioned, this is slick, sticky and viscous, but I wouldn’t declare that this is much different than other barrel aged imperial stouts hailing from California. Undercurrents of bourbon oak, and peppercorn, and English yeast. Definitely experience some spice resembling aniseed and licorice root flowing alongside molasses, roast, and booze. A little hop bitterness by swallow, as well. Fun, but not necessarily all that memorable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2011 vintage poured in snifter.
Pours almost black, with light edges when held up to the light. Light bubbly tan head.
Gives off an aroma of chocolate, bourbon and a fair amount of booziness.
Intense bourbon flavor at the front, faint hits of chocolate with some sweetness, and finishes with some boozy heat.
Wonderful mouthfeel, slick and oily. Way better than it looked in the pour.
Pretty good stout. I’m curious as to what it wold have tasted like without being aged in the bourbon barrels, as it seems as though the bourbon overpowers a lot of the other flavors. Still quite delicious though.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours like liquid chocolate with minimal head. The aroma is chocolate, caramel with an earthy sweetness. The taste is of medium sweetness but boozy finish. The texture is oily and thick but with soft carbonation. Overall this is an enjoyable, boozy Christmas beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small light tan head and brown hue. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, wood, coffee, chocolate, bread and dried fruit. Taste is light to medium bitter with notes of bourbon, chocolate, raw sugar, wood and booze. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Quite nice but I prefer the non barrel aged.

Flavor is similar with huge swirling bourbon, vanilla, just straight up deliciousness. Some hints of dark fruits. Near perfect viscosity, lingering bourbon, roasty bourbon goodness.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: Huge bourbon aroma upfront with notes of bourbon sweetness, oak, and vanilla followed by coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, dark fruit, and light notes of alcohol.
A: Pours opaque black with a smallish brown head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.
T: FAR more complexity than the aroma indicates. Sweet bourbon and oak dominate with chocolate and caramel notes, some roast malt and a big warming alcohol presence.
P: Medium-thick body, moderately low carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.
O: This is a solid barrel aged beer. Incredible barrel flavor adds a layer of complexity that complements the base beer and balances the overall flavor, a must try for any fan if this style.
