Pours a dark brownish black from the bottle with bubbly brown head that dissipates to leave nice webs of lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malts heavy up front and coffee, then a hint of peppermint maybe and booze. Taste is mostly just the roast, but some chocolate and booze. Pretty solid, a really bitter finish.

Pours a viscous, black and forms a thick, creamy and foamy mocha-colored head. Pleasant aromas of sorghum and sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is heavy and viscous, but not unpleasant. Sweet chocolate covered cherries that finishes in a somewhat unappealing manner. It seems that the hops interact with the alcohol and the lactose to yield a peculiar plastic taste. Save that, the beer is an excellent concoction. I’d buy this one again. Particularly for the price I paid at Whole Foods. Very reasonable.

The candy sugar that's added really suits the name. Good beer! Hints of chocolate and coffee really stand out. This is definitely a Christmas beer. One to take outside or in, in front of a fire a feel the ABV hit you. Also Ages really well. Just opened the bottle that was bottled Aug 11' taste even better. ---BeerCh3f on BeerBuddy App

TEJA (1146) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 28, 2013
Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Lasting brown head and BLACK color. Dark chocolate aroma with dark chrystal malts gives a rich complex mix. The taste is alcoholic and rich chocolate and a harsh bitterness to balance the sweetness.

Bottles oh 2009 and bottle dated 9/10/12 side by side. 09 pours a dark black/brown with a small tan head while 12 has a very large head. Taste of 09 is more subtle roast malt, bitter chocolate, and dark fruits. The hops in the 2012 is more present with bitter hops in the nose in taste, which covers up the rest. I prefer the mellowed and aged 09, more smooth and less abrasive all the way around.

AZBennett (74) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aromas of coffee, cocoa and booze. Tastes nearly the same with more booze added and some ash/tar thrown in for good measure then finishes with some licorice. The mouthfeel is creamy and heavy with an aftertaste of booze and bitter chocolate. Overall a very nice beer, I enjoyed it more than the BA version.

Bottled:
Pours pitch black in color with a huge thick brown head that sinks slowly. Aromas are roasted malt, chocolate, cold coffee and a touch of vanilla. Taste has a nice light sweetness at the start and then bitter coffee and deep roasted malt take over. Alcohol comes through in the finish.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of toasted malt. Flavors of licorice, chocolate and coffee. Viscous mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Bitter, burnt coffee finish. Nic.
