Appearance: Pours dark black with light brown head.
Aroma: Aroma of coffee, light chocolate.
Taste: Licorice, coffee, light roast.

Summary: I enjoyed this imperial stout, although for some reason the nose and taste were a bit restrained compared to others I’ve had. Solid.

Reviewed 12/23/10. 22oz for $8 @ Huck’s in Spokane, WA 2010 Vintage Poured from bottle to snifter. A: Black, thick, opaque. Light doesn’t penetrate even directly through. Beautiful mocha single finger loosely sits atop ale. This dissipates in five minutes, and can be revived with a stern swirl in the glass. S: We have a winner! Dark cocoa, dark roasted espresso, vanilla bean, cedar, almost a hint of amaretto dance with piney, hempy (simcoe?) hops. At 10% ABV, the burn is only a hint in the overall nose meal here. T: What I said above? Yeah, copy and paste. At the finish, the bitterness of the hops blends well with the dark chocolate. You can taste the brewers licorice at the end as well. Roasty ashy mix in my mouth a couple minutes later. Basically what this says to me: more Santa’s Helper please. M: Thick, sticky, chewy. I feel like this beer should come in a chewy granola bar flavor. Low carb helps remind me to swish and swallow, then repeat. D: This is my first try, I poured about 5oz into my snifter, took three drinks and called the store and had them set the remaining six aside. This is gonna do me good for a couple years to come. And if the risk of drinking this is to receive a lump of coal, I’ll take two! Serving type: bottle 12-23-2010

Bottle, thanks Josh! Aroma is licorice, alcohol, and dark chocolate. Pours pitch black with big foamy brown head. Fairly chewy mouthfeel with black licorice, molasses. Smooths out a bit as it warms. Warming alcohol finish.
