Bottle. Black with a big sudsy tan head. Nose of Dark chocolates and nuts. Taste is complex with mocha, dark fruits, burnt chestnuts, bitter black walnuts and dark bitter baking chocolate. Palate is full an slightly oily. Decent.

Pitch black pour with lots of lacing. Nice aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Initial flavour is milk chocolate with some coffee before spices and a slight sourness takes over. A nice, complex Christmas stout I’d try again!

Not intense aroma of chocolate and some coffee, boozy, solvent. Pours black with very nice tan head. Taste is dry, booze and some solvent are too sharp. Some coffee and chocolate in the background. Overall disappointing.

One of the blackes blacks I’ve ever seen in a glass - no light getting through the liquid... The aroma is milk chocolate, toffee, dried raisins and figues. The taste on the other side is the beery equivalent to an perfectly served italian espresso. Very nice x-mas ale

Large, creamy, light brown, mostly lasting head, good lacing. Normal, dark brown body. Moderate malty aroma, with notes of roasted, nutty, molasses, milk chocolate and mild coffee. Moderate hoppy aroma, with notes of spruce, resin and orange. Light yeasty aroma, with notes of dough and sweat. Notes of date, toffee, vanilla and licorice. Moderate sweet, light bitter, light acidic and salty initial flavor. Long, light sweet, heavy bitter and moderate acidic finish. Medium to full body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Light alcoholic, moderate astringent finish. Very nice!

Bien noire ..

2008 bottle, thanks a lot Scheffel! Pours pitch black with an off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, sweet candy, vanilla, brown sugar, melasses, dark chocolate, notes of coffee. Taste is thinner than the aroma indicates, light roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, sweet finish. Doesn’t seem old at all.
