Pours dark as night with a two and a half finger mocha colored head that dissipates slowly and leaves a wonderful, thick lacing. Just a beautiful looking beer with an impressive head for a strong beer. Smells of bittersweet chocolate, some expresso, vanilla, some hoppy notes like grass or floral when it warms, lots of roasted breadiness as well some brown sugar sweetness. Taste starts with the bittersweet chocolate, expresso, some vanilla. In the middle, tons of roasted and bready malt shine through that smooths out the bitter chocolate and expresso. The finish then turns a little more bitter. This time it’s from the hops, not the bittersweet chocolate. Also get the expresso, chocolate, roasted flavors, some brown sugar, maybe some peat. As it warms more of the hop characters show through and you get more floral notes on the finish as well. Pretty full body with a very creamy and rich mouthfeel. Nothing Christmasy about this, just a great, rich imperial stout.

Poured from a 22oz bottle, 2010 vintage. Aroma is malty with balanced roast and chocolate notes. Some light phenolic spice with medium light dark fruit esters of plum and prune. A faint, faded hop note with some light oxidation character of honey and cardboard. A bit of alcohol spice. Pours black with a large, thick, mocha head that exhibits good retention as it recedes slowly. Medium lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of chocolate and a bit lighter amount of roast. Some light tobacco and leather notes. Moderate bitterness with a touch of ash. A hint of dark fruit and anise. Medium light alcohol spice. A light cardboard oxidation note in the finish. More dark fruit as it warms. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but present astringency with medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright stout and it has held up surprisingly well with its age. I thought I had sat on this bottle for too long, but it?s still close to its fresh self. Nice malt character with balance of roast and chocolate. Good complimentary fruit and phenolic notes. A bit hot even with its age.

From NOTES. A: Dark, almost burnt malts, light dark fruits, and a touch of cocoa and coffee. A: Very pretty dark pour, almost black, with a nice khaki pillowy head. T: A smooth chocolate flavor, with crisp burnt malt. A little bit of coffee and lingering caramel. There is also a faint smoky flavor. P: Full body, medium carbonation. O: Very nice imperial stout with lots of flavors, a nice balance and an all around good beer. For the fans of bigger stouts only.

Nice and classic style Xmas beverage. Sugar, spice, everything. ..well booze. Heavy hitting and full of flavors but just above an average rating since it sits similar to others. Tap

Bottle shared with Dan and Edgar at the Pig. The snifter pour was dark black with a soft tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate, some dark fruits like prunes and raisins, slight Belgian yeast aromas, and hint of vanilla. The taste was similar with the dark fruits, dark chocolate, and Belgian candied sugars. Sweet finish with dark fruits and roasted malts. Good balance, great after a pulled pork sandwich. A nice full bodied sipper.

Good imperial stout with complexity and in balance. I have had better ones but this one is not bad at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
