UPDATED: JUL 11, 2010 Bottle, 22oz, thx to tarjei. A next to black beer with a small, tan head. Vanilla, alcohol, coffee, some chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. The flavor is rather sweet, with alcohol, vanilla, roasted malts and coffee-like bitterness. Full-bodied and warming. Long, roasted finish with a good bitterness. A quite intense beer, maybe a bit too much, but really lovely and tasteful. Rating: 8-4-8-4-17-4.1. 090508

Bottle, 22oz. It pours next to black, with a small, tan head on top. The aroma has mocha, licorice and some meaty scents, all well integrated and smooth. The flavor is lightly meaty, with roasted malts, mocha and a pleasant hoppy bitterness. Full-bodied and quite dry-ish. Bitter finish, both hop-bitter and roasted malts-bitter. Mocha too in the finish. A nice little Christmas beer this one. 100326

A: The pour is almost black with a thin mocha colored head. S: There’s a big dark fruit aroma right off the bat. Lots of plums, prunes, cherries, and figs. Lots of roasted malts, a bit of burnt sugar, approaching ash, but works quite well. Some licorice and a bit of alcohol, too. T: Tons and tons of roast, lots of burnt sugar, licorice, and molasses. There’s a slight bitterness to it, likely from the roasted malts. The fruit character is not as pronounced as on the nose, but still there. M: The body is medium with a low to moderate level of carbonation and a bit of warming alcohol. D: For a big beer like this, it’s pretty easy to drink and quite enjoyable (probably the best of the Santa’s vintages I’ve tried).

Bottle split on the patio of the hotel, San Diego, thanks to GT2 for this one 14/11/14. Black with a big dirty tan head that retains well - a good looker! Nose is spice, bitter roast, chocolate, leather, liqourice, light charr. Taste comprises chocolate maltesers, hint of plastic, light spice, molasses, dark fruit rinds. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light hop presence in the background. Ok impy.
