Goodgrief (995), Middletown, Delaware, USA Apr 14, 2008 Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing the wealth. A black pour with red highlights on the edges under a thin tan head. This one was heavy chocolate, dry with almost an irish stout feel. Some roasty and ashy notes as well. Good but not great.
Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Dark Chocolate, soy, cocoa, fudge and vanilla with lots of roast/burnt malt notes. Full black body with a thumb thick, lasting, mocha head. Soft low carbonation feel on the first sip, char, roast, dark fruit, burnt malt, baker’s chocolate and bittersweet chocolate, coffee and hints of brown sugar and molasses. pint_size (1001), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2008 7-3-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to JW77
Dark black brown pour with a nice tan head. Smell is subtle alcohol and roasted sweet malt. Flavor is roasted malt but has a touch too much present alcohol. Mouthfeel is almost syrupy yet seems thin on the tongue with no carbonation. lb4lb (1275), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle courtesy of JW77. Thanks!
Pours black with a nice tan head. Smell is roasty, and metallic with a hint of alcohol showing as it warms.
Taste is roasty, moderately bitter and hopped, and a hint of dry coffee. Thin compared to most imperial stouts with medium carbonation. Drinkable, but not much above an average imperial stout for me. Just a bit thin and boring, but still well enough made. Dogbrick (2166), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 17, 2008 Sample at the Most Honorable SuperHappyFun Stout Tasting. Bottle from Park Lane Liquor in Lancaster, CA. This beer pours pitch black with a medium and foamy light brown head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Chocolate, coffee and vanilla in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of coffee, cocoa and roasted malt, plus some vanilla and raisins. The finish is rich and flavorful with a nice vanilla mocha aftertaste. Good all around. desurfer (1024), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA May 7, 2008 Pours an opaque brown, yeasty with a thick head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Rich, roasty and woody flavor. Bitter finish.
