This is a classic West Coast-style imperial red ale brewed with medium crystal malts, centennial and cascade hops. The color is a burnt amber with red highlights and the aroma has a spicy hop presence with moderate caramel malt accents. The taste is a smooth, malty one with a balanced hoppy finish that includes hints of sweet caramel

Bomber bottled in February, so barely three months old; label says 9.0% ABV instead of the 9.5% given here. Thick, heavily cobweb-lacing, beaten egg-white, dense, frothy head, clear pure and warm copper red colour with amberish hue. Fragrant and dank IPA-like (but maltier) bouquet of marmelade and candied orange, pink grapefruit flesh, pine needles, hemp (as in: marihuana), pistachio nuts, chicken spices, caramel, toasted brown bread, cigarette tobacco, pink pepper, strawberry wine, artisanal honey, hazelnut, roast tomato peel, nutmeg, bacon, ginger. Low sweetness in the onset, some subdued dried fig and raisin, hints of umami and sourishness but all quite restrained and flavorful at the same time, as if they reinforce each other; carbonation is medium to sharpish but lightens the body, which, though certainly not thin, feels surprisingly light for a beer this strong. Some caramel malt sweetishness quickly makes room for a deep ’bittersweetness’, very toasted and pleasantly nutty, the bittering effect of which is completely in line with the finish, which is dominated by juicy American hoppiness: lovely retronasal aromas of grapefruit, orange peel freshness, some pine and exotic spice, while at the same time the back of the mouth is dried with a resinous, citrusy, peppery yet still fairly ’gentle’ bitterness, leaving a ’stream’ of juicy bittersweet (and ultimately, after swallowing, even somewhat caramelly sweet) malts to pass through down into the throat, accompanied by lovely hop spiciness. Needless to say, a warming, slightly bourbon-like alcohol effect is noticeable, but stays perfectly in place. Pleasant enough beer, feels a lot lighter than I expected based on its strength, the lightness of which is further enhanced with the both delicate and exuberant New World hop aromas, making it come very close to red IPA - which would have been a style designation as credible and true as ’American strong ale’, which actually does not say a lot. Whatever the beer style: enjoyed this a lot, not the most complex or demanding ale, but showing an incredible ’drinkability’ and simply being to the point in terms of flavor.

kindly shared by impuritylaw@Roland’s brewday, thanks a lot! Lovely aromas of pine, a whole bunch of tropical fruits and hints of caramel, slight alcohol burn; on a fizzy up to sharp palate, the hops come out quite soapy, though. Soap translates back into tropical fruitiness as soon as the overly strong carbonation has ceded; nice, balanced bitter finish.

Pours deep red with a mahogany hue and a thick, foamy head of beige bubbles. Aroma is hop forward as you would expect but not overpowering as an IIPA more like a malt driven beer with hops than vice versa. Taste is very well balanced between the maltiness and hops with neither overpowering the other but a quite pronounced bitterness in the finish. One of the easiest drinking beers of this ABV and a real testament to Port Brewing’s ability to make solid beers of any style.

Bomber. Murky amber-orange pour with a huge frothy head. Caramel/toffee, citrus and pine hops, and a little spice. Another very well made brew from Port.

On tap 4 oz. taster at the Lost Abbey/Port Brewing tasting room. Nearly clear, orange/brown/red with a pale khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of caramel (or maybe toffee), pine and citrus. Taste of toffee, citrus, pine and caramel. Medium/full body and low/medium carbonization with a soft mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 22B). Bottle 56 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: hop aroma moderate-high with a citric, resiny, piny character, complemented by a moderate background of sweet malt with toffee, very faint caramel and gentle dried grapes. APPEARANCE: dark ambar color and slightly hazy. large, creamy, dark ivory head with good retention. some lacing/legging formation. TASTE: initial sweet toffee-like malt with moderate intensity, followed by a medium-low hop presence with notes similar to aroma (citric / piny). The malt is complex, showing also toasty and slight caramel notes. slight peppery alcohol also present. medium-high bitterness enduring after a semi-dry fonosh. balanced. PALATE: medium to medium-high body with a slight velvety texture and a present alcohol warmth but smooth. no astringency from hops. high carbonation. OVERALL: a very good american strong ale with a very present hop character and a complex malt to complement the presentation. the sample had a bit extra carbonation.

Pours reddish copper with a fine tan head. Nose is a strong mix of floral hops and a sweet red malt. Flavor is well balanced between the hops, wheaty malt, and a touch of alcohol. Good stuff.

Ale potente e caramellata, che alterna un carattere dolciastro e maltoso ad una luppolatura secca ed importante. Avvolgente al naso, cremosa al palato, persistente e di corpo medio-abbondante... Una favola!
