COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a classic West Coast-style imperial red ale brewed with medium crystal malts, centennial and cascade hops. The color is a burnt amber with red highlights and the aroma has a spicy hop presence with moderate caramel malt accents. The taste is a smooth, malty one with a balanced hoppy finish that includes hints of sweet caramel

Hoppier than I expected, it had a sort of boring typical "red beer" taste but the 9.2% elevated its status above the rest of the pack.

The description says it best: "The color is a burnt amber with red highlights and the aroma has a spicy hop presence with moderate caramel malt accents. The taste is a smooth, malty one with a balanced hoppy finish that includes hints of sweet caramel" Very true. Well-balanced malt / hop concoction. A couple steps shy of a barley wine but without the burn. Very smooth.

on tap at lord hobo. cloudy dark red pour with a nice off-white head, reviving and leaving some lacing. red and peppery wheat, tasty candy and barley sugars - never cloying - very fruity - strawberry jam, almost juicy sweet melons and melanoidin, sweetish nuts, ginger and pine, other spices - hot ones, herbal tea leafiness, clean yeast. average carbonation, medium body - oily and sticky; semi-sweet gently piney-citrusy finish. much enjoyed!

Bottle. Aroma lots of biscuity sugary caramel. Then intense hops, resiny, citrusy fruity. Hazy amber colour, stable head. Taste is hoppy, herbal, warming alcohol, also lots of the caramel. Interesting beer and a very good one.

On tap at Lord Hobo. Pours a clear red with a small offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of nice fruity and perfumey hops over a caramel base. Taste is of pine, caramel and moderately bitter balancing the moderately sweet caramel. Body is medium and carbonation moderately high. Overall a nice double red IPA but not too distinctive, still really nice though.
