UPDATED: JAN 2, 2008 sampled on tap at the 5th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. i’m going to call Port out for putting this up at a fest of 8%+ beers because i always believed this was not that high in abv....pours cloudy orange with white head. very piney hop nose. flavor is extremely crisp, peppery, and piney hops. tasty. 7/4/7/4/15= 3.7
May 25, 2007, 22oz bottle. pours dense golden with fluffy white head. nose is sorta fruity hop aroma but not much. flavor is refreshing, fruity grapefruit hops with caramel malts, tasty. perhaps not that fresh of a bottle. smooth finish. 7/4/7/4/14=3.6.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of pine, grapefruit, and some tropical fruit punch. Beer pours cloudy orange with lots of yeast floating around. Flavor is hoppy and bitter. Very dry and resiny grapefruit and pine. It is almost chewy. It is a good, but not great IPA.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber. Clear amber/orange with a huge head. Aroma was nearly all citrus and tropical fruit with just a little caramel. Taste of spicy and citrusy hops makes it a full-out hop display for the tongue. Very lovely and bitter bite. Astringent finish. Yum!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 18, 2008 RERATE 2008, overlooking an Indiana cornfield... Still this is beauty of an IPA and sharp and crisp. Evertything you would ever want from the genre.
Bottle served in my Ratebeer tulip and enjoyed at my hotel overlooking a beautiful Pacific Ocean sunset with the waves gently crashing upon the beach...ah what a memorable moment:
Slightly hazed golden hue with a large fluffy head and very good lace. The nose detects resiny and piney hops, grapefruit and apple jack, biscuity malt and a hint of white pepper. The taste is a bold hoppy attack with leading citric characteristics. Biting acidic follow through with a dry spicy finish. A bit metallic and astringent on the aftertaste. Crisp and refreshing while dancing across my palate.
I like the bold expression yet it is not over the top. A lovely bigger IPA (near IIPAish). To celebrate the memory, I type this while wearing my PP Wipeout T-Shirt.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle. Lightly hazed peachy orange with a whipped white head. Pink grapefruit, watermelon and a twist of lemon. Peppery caramel deeper down. Yowza! This really packs a hop bite. Like chewing on lemon and lime sections soaked in pine oil and grain alcohol. Buzzy carb, medium light. Resiny finish that’s juicy (or is that just my mouth watering?) with a slow developing dryness. Caramel and toffee come out after the hop hammering. Wild stuff but oddly alluring.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 1, 2007 Bottle. Bought in San Diego. Golden color with lacing head. Citrusy flowery hop aroma with crystal malt notes. Grassy suggesting dry hopping. Sweet malt flavor though balanced with plenty of hop bitterness and flavor. Bodering on cloying, could be dryer. Medium body. Fresh and clean.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2007 Big thanks to Beerdrenched for sharing this West Coast IPA. Pours clear copper with a light off-white head. The aroma has lots of hops that are floral and tropical, but age has affected it and has excessive mustiness. Medium body that is fairly slick, but has sharp prickly carbonation. The taste has aged malt with minimal hops. The finish adds some woody hops and more aged malt. There is a lingering woody / piney hop presence. I sure this would have been a knock out fresh, hopefully I can get a fresh one down the road and rerate this one. (7/3/7/3/14)
Rerate notes: Fresher still wasn’t all that great to me. Far more malt than one would expect for a west coast IPA - toasted caramel and light breadiness. The hops are good enough, but the mix didn’t gel all that well for me. I’m hoping to get out to San Diego before too long, maybe it will taste better when I have it on tap and can add another rerate, just not too impressed at this point.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The aroma and the flavor are both very grassy and herbal. The flavor is crisp, refreshing and full of citrus notes, like orange peels and slightly spicy as well.. The carbonation is pleasant - medium bubbles, very easy to drink, well-balanced IPA.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy orange/light amber pour. Quite viscous looking. Thin but lasting white head. Steady carbonation lies deep within, buried and barely moving under a syrupy body. A citric hop aroma is soft and well defined, refined too. Mostly notes of navel oranges and tangerines. Plenty of malt, somewhat sweet, slightly nutty. Quite light and fresh flavor initially. Great balance of malt and hops, but the hops soon take the lead in intensity. Orange and grapefruit bitterness is thoroughly intense and very satisfying. It does seem like a jumbled up hop character(too many varieties). Finishes bitter and smooth. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall very good, but a little too syrupy at times.
