COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With 78 IBUs. Our version of a West Coast IPA- brewed in the San Diego style. This massively hoppy beer gets its flavor and attitude from no less than five hop varieties including Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Summit.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2007 Pours an almost clear reddish brown with a nice head and lacing. Aroma is grapefruit and citrus. Body is medium. Flavor was about what I expected: a complex hoppy West Coast (San Diego County) style IPA similar to Alesmith’s and Stone’s offerings in this vein. The grapefruit/pine flavors from the hops do a good job of concealing the alcohol.

copper color and an insatiable head overflows no matter what. I really dig the hop bill on this. Tons of centenniel pine, lots of simcoe mango, and a finish of amarillo grapefruit. A perfect amount of sweetness to balance a hoppiness of an IIPA with the alcohol of an IPA. Aroma is almost exactly like two hearted ale.

Bottle in trade with padrefan98. Nice clear orange-copper color with a thin white head. Great piney/citrus hop aroma that manages to be sharp but not astringent. Palate damn near perfect. Hop character develops throughout the taste, expressing the pine and citrus characters atop a nice malt base. A great IPA.

22oz bottle from MrBendo. Aroma: Biscuity malt and very light caramel. Big piney and citrusy hop nose with notes of apricot, pineapple, and fresh grass. Appearance: Light amber/gold in color and slightly hazed. Bone colored head was huge and fluffy with great retention. Great lacing. Flavor: Biscuity malt with a touch of graininess and caramel, Big pine and citrus hop flavors with notes of apple, apricot, resin, and fresh grass. Bitterness has a nice bite but doesn’t get to aggressive. Dry finish with a bit of hop flavor and bitterness carrying over. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Great IPA in the west coast style. Tons of aroma and flavor with a nice hop bite. Really liked this one.

Sampled at a gathering of TN Ratebeerians a couple months ago; thanks to Beer Hawk (via trade with Vac). West Coast hops bite the nose at first, giving way to grapefruit, grass and toast (nice conglomeration of aromas). Thin looking in the glass; head diminishes to a dusting. Sub-surface "racing" explodes toward the surface, showing very active carbonation. Piny herbal hops linger long after the swallow. Grassy notes shoot all the way through, integrating well with unfermented malt sugars. The bitterness has a metal character. The high IBU count dries out the finish nicely. Very solid IPA.

Draught. Dark orange-copper with a small white head and lacing. The aroma has a lot of fresh oranges and tangerine-style hops with a surprising level of sweetness. Dark, bready flavour along with chewy biscuit and ridiculously long and piney hops. Superb, you can’t even sense that this is anywhere near 7%.
Pint at Pizza Port Carlsbad on March 25, 2007.

Last beer of the night as the Flames are knocked out of the playoffs in double OT. Good clean higher ABV IPA. Delicious hoppy beer. Juicy. More hop than malt. Delicious deep hoppy aroma.

Bottle sampled. Pours orange/amber with a huge off-white head. Aroma of floral hops, citrus, pine, perhaps a little hint of fruit. The flavor is sweet, citrusy, floral, pine, caramel, spices, and a hoppy bitter finish.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2010 bottle-pours bright orange with a small frothy white head. floral notes, but you can tell this one has had some age on it. definately not a pungent attack of hops-very subdued and somewhat dusty in a sense. Wish this was fresh. for what it was, it was definately not bad. lots of floral hop flavor which would be a citric bomb when fresh i bet. carbonation is sharp, showing its oxidization again. definately need to revisit this one! re-rate at the brewery-finally a fresh sample-fresh citrus on the nose-tangerines, oranges and pineapple-passionfruit. the flavors exhibit these flavors and even though this was fresh, the old versions have that citrus in the flavors as well. a very good ipa!
