Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Feb 16, 2009 The pour was a slightly cloudy copper color with a sudsy white head that produced great rings of lacing. The aroma was lots of pine and maybe some hemp with nice citrus and malt contrast. The flavor was a well balanced blend of light citrus hops, sweet caramel and hefty dose of earthy pine. Above average mouthfeel. Managed to avoid an overly sharp finish, just fruity transitioning into nice dryness. FirmButtstone (47), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Feb 15, 2009 bottle from sams in chicago. thin white head with no lace. nice citris nose. lots of cascade hop it seemes. very solid ipa. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Feb 14, 2009 aroma of very light fruit. color is cloudy gold, dark at focus. flavor is of bitter peaches and pine. palate is nearly dry. despite my lack of words for this one, it is indeed world class. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Feb 13, 2009 Bottle thanks to ang at home with him. Aroma is great exactly what i wanted from the citrusy lychee grapefruity hops. Taste however seems a bit thinner than i expected, like its still massivly drinkable, but just not as intence as i expected. Good stuff all the same. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 9, 2009 This didn’t impress me as a top-of-the-stack IPA, but it was quite a solid beer. Thanks to SurlySober for bringing it back to WI in his wooden leg and sharing it with me.
It poured a cloudy orange/straw color with a medium quantity of head. Aroma and flavor were both sufficiently hoppy and offered enough bite and challenge to satisfy my wants and needs in a beer. There was also a significant malt presence, which I found pleasing. However, the hop character lacks a real dry hop bite (like in Avery Maharaja) but also isn’t grassy or citrus-y. It is just hoppy, without any of those other superlatives. Not bad, just right down the middle of the style. Mouthfeel was dry and good.
I would recommend this beer, but not as highly as some others on this site. hophead21112 (109), Louisville (LEWISville), Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bomber from Superior. Nice, thick head with suberb retention and above average lacing. Spicy & hoppy nose. Cloudy orange/red, murky but healthy. Sediment dances at the bottom when agitated. Grapefruit/citrus on the tongue and good mouthfeel. Hoppy bitterness all the way down. Great West Coast IPA. 1 Wipeout + 1 Blind Pig = 1 splendid evening RichardGretton (3128), Leicestershire, England Feb 6, 2009 Bottle. Orangey/golden beer with a strong foamy head. The aroma is peppery and dry, and the flavour is malty, very dry, very bitter, and very hopped. Overall a nicely dry hopped beer. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 5, 2009 On tap at Pizza Port in Solana Beach. A very similar beer to Stone Ruination. Cloudy golden orange color with a white head. Aroma is piney and citrusy hops. Same type of hops as Ruination (Amarillo I think) balanced by sweet caramel malt. Falls a tiny bit short of the kick that Ruination packs. Medium body, dry finish.
