BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 Great old stand-by reviewed at Lost Abbey.
Appearance is a translucent dark yellow hue, thin layer of white head, light lacing on the glass.
Smell is clean and crisp bread malts, light citrus hops, subtle aromas but well-balanced.
Taste is initially characterized by pine and citrus hops, some hints of grass and pine, background flavor of pale malts, finishes bitter with slight alcohol warming.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, oily and slick texture, mild carbonation.
Drinkability is high, an amazing single IPA with a great SoCal style, the hops are well-balanced with malts and do not overwhelm, very "sessionable"... I could drink this one all night long. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 17, 2008 Citrus Hoppiness Dominates. This is the epitome of a west coast IPA. Fruity tones combine with a soft maltiness to add some balance. veshi (2), USA does not count Aug 13, 2008 Shared this beer with my neighbor. A good citrus-y aroma and a very pleasant and hoppy flavor. Fruitfly (59), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2008 Hazy orange amber with active light head. Smell is a nice range of fragrant hops with pine and a tiny bit of carmel malts. Flavor is noticably shallow. Finish is bitter and fresh. I prefer IPAs with more malt balance. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 At Lost Abbey and Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours clear and golden orange with a lacing white head. Peach fruity and light orange fruity hops aroma. Dry hoppy and mild caramel malty for base flavour. Fruity hoppy and light spiced flavour with a solid bitterness following. Ends dry and fruity hoppy, light burn in the far finish. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber with decent head. Hops, hops, hops. In aroma, in flavor, in finish. Nice west coast IPA dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Jul 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a white head that dissipates quickly. Big bitter hops aroma with sweeter citrus notes. Taste is crisp and very bitter, lots of hops, with an herbal hint. Lingering bitterness. Very refreshing and tasty. gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bomber. Lightly hazy orange pour. Strong bitter hops aroma with pine and citrus. Insanely hoppy flavor burns the tongue a bit. Grassy, citrusy, tart. A very tasty beer for sure, but not a lot of balance.
