franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 24, 2007 Pours a hazy golden amber with gynormous head that dies down quick and laces thick. Smells of citrus, floral hops, rind, mild grapefruit. Tastes as is smells with a nice malt balance. Big hops but all flatened out. Hoppy rind bitterness finishes and lingers slightly. Medium to light feel with great carbonation and zero ABV presence. Another awesome brew from Port and another awesome IPA from the west coast.
Dansting (222), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Dec 23, 2007 Bottle. Poured a clear golden color with a medium white head. Strong and pleasant citrus and hoppy aroma. Flavor is very hoppy, with a nice grapefruit bitterness to it. Pine finish. A very nice IPA. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 23, 2007 Bomber. Pours a cloudy amber color. Nice white head with medium sized bubbles. Smells great, citrus and hops. Pretty much your standard West Coast SD style IPA. Tastes of hops, of course, but also more sweetness on the finish than you’d normally find in an IPA. Palate is eh, its alright. Nothing to write home about. A little watery for lack of any better terminology. Overall, this is not my favorite IPA by a long shot but this is a beer that I could still drink all day and night. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Dec 21, 2007 bottle. Thanks Saarlander. Hazy straw/orange pour with frothy head. citrus hops, pine resin, rich malts, hop oil aroma. Delicious! Rich and mildly creamy. great hops and bitterness. noticed some pear. lively carbonation. top notch IPA. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 20, 2007 Pours light - a pale, cloudy honey color. Hops on the nose right away - and strong hops, to boot. A lot of citrus in the aroma, with a bit of other fruits - grapefruit for sure, and I’d swear someone dropped a bit of pomegranate in there. Initial flavor is disappointing - it isn’t big enough for a "massively hoppy beer." The taste lingers, though, and builds into a nice IPA after a few more sips. The flavor is more piney than the aroma - not much of the citrus comes through. Good overall, but I want more than a "nice" IPA - I keep sipping more, hoping for a more complex, more intense flavor - and it doesn’t come. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Dec 16, 2007 On tap at PP Carlsbad. Clear bronze amber with off-white head. Slight citrus aroma with light sweetness. Big bubblegum flavor with grapwfruit, pine, sweet abd awesome. Medium bodied and creamy. Awesome IPA. highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Dec 15, 2007 22 oz from Plaza Liquors. Pours a beautiful copper color. Huge aroma of spicy and fruity hops. Nice somewhat chewy texture with a good malt backbone to go with the insane hops. One of my favorite IPA’s. Beerlando (2286), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 12, 2007 Poured carefully, this awesome brew comes out a clear, medium orange-amber color. A large, creamy, off-white head sticks around for ages, leaving thick sheets of lace behind. The first thing you notice about the aroma is the creaminess. This thing is hoppy, with citrus being the primary component, but incredibly creamy caramel malts cut right through the orange hoppiness. The flavor echoes those same sentiments, with big orange hops blending absolutely perfectly with heavy cream, creating what is essentially a citrus hop milkshake. The body is perfect. Plain and simple...just perfect. Its substantially full and smooth as silk. I couldn’t ask for anything more for the mouthfeel. This brew shows excellent balance from start to finish. Its as flavorful as a double IPA, but as easy drinking and sessionable as a smooth, well balanced, regular IPA. What more can I say? San Diego continues to pump out the most consistently solid IPAs in the country.
