madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Jun 2, 2007 Bottle. Pours hazy orange color, medium frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, floral hops, some sweet caramel malt. Taste has more floral, pine, resin and some malt. Very good bitterness. Medium body. Good, what I would expect from Port. DrHomolka (726), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 2, 2007 22oz. Pours hazy orange with a small foamy white head. Aroma is pleasant, citrusy hops. Some pine too but mostly citrus. Oranges. Taste is pretty bitter, earthy and piney. Pretty rough but not in a bad way. It would be nice if the citrus in the aroma came through in the flavor more. Taste could be a bit sweeter. Still good though. Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jun 2, 2007 Updated: Sep 5, 200722oz. bottle. Aroma presents a full spectrum of fresh, leafy hop character, strongly fruity and delicately floral, with notes of pine resin, spice, dried herbs, tangerine, grapefruit, bubblegum and faint leather, along with some honeysuckle sweetness in the background, Medium golden color with an amber cast, very lightly hazy and with a mountainous, billowy and lasting head. Flavor profile features a similar panoply of resinous, juicy hop flavors, with plenty of pine, lightly peppery spice and citrus and a largely undetectable malt character, this manifesting very late with suggestions of pale grains. This is one of those IPAs with a dizzying rush and array of hop flavors, yet without the crushing bitterness that generally accompanies such a direction, rather, contributing a soft and balanced amount, and seeing a touch of dryness towards the clean finish. Mouthfeel is effervescent and creamy with a medium-full body. Certainly an agreeable interpretation. Cheers, Brian! kflorence (93), San Diego, California, USA Jun 1, 2007 This was probably the hoppiest beer I’ve ever tried. Smells like a juniper tree. Very bitter, tastes kinda like a pine tree, yet it has a sort of sweet flavor too. The after taste lingers on forever, which was kind of annoying. Not a fan of hoppy beers, but if you like them, you’d love this. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark May 30, 2007 Cloudy orange colour with a dense beige head. Malty, light caramel sweet aroma with hoppy pineapple fruity notes. Hoppy, pine bitter flavor with fruity notes on a malty sweet background. Light dry bitter and sweet finish. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA May 28, 2007 This bomber poured a nice hazy orange color with an above average frothy white head. There was great lacing and a decent amount of sediment floating around. The smell was piney, soapy and hoppy. The taste was very hoppy with some piney undertones and some hints of grass and spice. Well done IPA with a perfect hoppy palate. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA May 27, 2007 Bottle from Tops Liquors, Phoenix. The pour was standard, golden with some amber, only an ok initial head, lacing decent. The aroma, though, took off, lots of citrus, grapefruits, some melons and pine. The flavor was full grapefruit, citrus, melons, pine, wonderful crystal malts underneath? This was another Port production that made me think of Stone IPA, so wonderful, my kind of IPA, yet at least this bottle wasn’t as good looking. Nice Stuff, great clean and refreshing mouthfeel for the summer months that are upon us. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA May 27, 2007 Poured a hazy effervescent golden with a large fizzy white head. Rich and sharp aroma of bitter rind of grapefruit, fresh cut lawn, some herbal spiciness, and perhaps a bit of pine cleaner. Flavor is intense with lots of grapefruity hop flavor and some bitter earthiness, with a touch of sweet toffee body. Sticky bitter oily hops cause phlegm to congeal in the mouth. After the relative disappointment that was High Tide, the complexity of this west coast hoppy treat comes as a more than welcome surprise.
