The beer is a deep golden color and medium bodied, with a soft round malt profile and crisp and spicy hop character on the finish. This lager is brewed in the traditional Pilsner style, using authentic Pilsner malt and noble Saaz hops.

Downright Pilsner gets its carbonation completely naturally as it lagers in our fermentation tanks for six weeks. A unique twist on this beer is the dry hop addition of Saaz hops. This additional infusion of hops gives the beer an extra refreshing bite on the finish.

Like everything else from Port City, their Downright Pilsner is super-fresh and completely down-to-earth. One of the qualities I like best about this brewery is that they donít fuss around with fancy flavors and hipster tweaks on the basic four-ingredient beer bible. Instead, they make super-high-quality, fresh, delicious beer that everybody can enjoy -- without the cutesy trickery that so many other brewers fool around with.

Crisp golden coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall white head. Aroma of fresh malt, light metal, a bit of sugars and a hint of dry grass. Light-bodied; Sharp pungent malt shows some depth with a hint of sweetness, a little yeast and a good dry hay character. Aftertaste shows a touch more sugars, a hint of bitterness from the malt and a little dry finish - nice. Overall, a nice beer, very refreshing with still strong hits of malt. Definitely worth trying if you can find it and itís hot outside - a respectable beer! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Elisir Restaurant in Washington on 17-August-2012 for US$7.

Bottle. Mostly clear golden hue, with a smallish white head that dissipates quickly. Clear grassy and hay hoppiness with some minerals as well as slight breadiness in the aroma. Same hay and lemony hops in the flavor and a light bready sweetness. Though a light body, itís a bit heavier for the style. Not bad at all, especially in this heat.

slightly hazy gold with a foamy white head. sticky medium body with medium-high carbonation.

aroma: pilsner malt, noble hops, slightly metallic minerality.

taste: hop bitterness, noble hop spiciness (tomato plant or green pepper plant), sour minerality, crusty pilsner malt.

nice overall, but lacks the soft subtlety and floral hop character of a great pilsner.

Serving: Draft. Hazy gold pour. Light grain on the tongue with little to no hop presence as far as flavor is concerned. There is a light back bitterness. It seems to lack both the noble hops and crispness I normally associate with the style.
