Monumental IPA is a rich copper color, and is intensely hoppy. We add a special blend of American hops throughout the brewing and fermentation process to create a complex combination of aroma and flavor. This ale exhibits floral notes, flavors of citrus and resin, combined with delicious caramel background notes. The balanced style will keep the palate fresh and invite the drinker back into the glass.

Bottle. Light copper pour with quickly disappearing head. Funny aroma... Grapefruit, pine, caramel, light spice. Light body and slight bitter finish. Light IPA... Not too exciting

A very sweet ipa. There is a little bitterness towards the end, but the hop flavors wind up indistinct or lost. Mediocre.

From a growler. Decent aroma. Hops, pine and citrus. Flavor is ok. Not a bad beer. Not very hoppy.

Solid IPA for those who like a less bitter, hoppy IPA. Has a nice floral/herby thing going on that makes it quite different from the very hoppy IPA’s like Victory’s Hop Wallop and Hop Devil. I think this is perhaps Port City’s best to date.

12oz bottle from The Beer Store Wilson. Reddish-orange pour with fully diminishing white fizzy head. Virtually no lacing. Mandarin orange, lemon and pineapple aromas. Light orange and lemon taste up front with a short light grapefruit hop finish. Wet texture, fizzy carbonation.

Poured at brewery a clear amber with small white head. Aroma was citrus, floral. Lighter not overbearing. Slick in the mouth a little oil. Taste was same as aroma with some pine resin esp in finish. Nicely done.

14-MAY-2014, draft @Harry’s Smokehouse @Pentagon City Mall. Hazy orange with low lasting, lasting, off-white head. Aroma is malt and hops. Taste is grape fruit, pine, over ripe peach and oranges. Sweet malts is plenty. Creamy with soft carbonation, not overly bitter. A nice fruity IPA.

(US 2012 backlogged in abstinentia) Draft pint @Flying Fish Restaurant, Alexandria VA 11/09/2012. Light-bodied sweetish amber ale speckled with some extra hops with a lemon tea granulate feel to them. Tired finish. Not an ideal fish accompanier.

Orange-yellow, not much aroma (though its a bad glass for aroma). Dry grapefruit with a faint orange finish behind the hops. Not bad.

12 oz. Clear orange-copper with a lasting disc of foam. Nose is corn, caramel and menthol. Flavor is orange caramel, toasted corn, hard mint cough drop and earthy leaf. Light-medium body seems like it might appear to have some balance if you did a keg stand and has low-medium carbonation. I may go back to this one in a drunken stupor where I couldn’t recall having it previously. This is a pretty awful IPA by either British or NAFTA standards. As of 4/11/2014 I am unable to finish it, but may let it sour for a week and re-rate.
