COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our anniversary is in the middle of winter; the darkest, coldest days in the Mid Atlantic. To celebrate our first anniversary, we brewed a very special, strong dark ale to warm us against the cold. Imperial Stout is an extra strong version of stout, which originally was brewed by the British to withstand the rigors of export. We used the West Malle Trappist yeast to give it a Belgian character. The beer shows aromas of bakers chocolate and dried fruits. It is rich, dark and strong, with flavors of espresso and dark swiss chocolate, spice and a touch of orange zest. The beer is very limited: we brewed only ONE batch, on ONE day, to celebrate a very special milestone for our craft brewery.

On tap at Black Squirrel’s Michigan beer event during DC Beer Week 2014. Pours a murky deep brown with some clumpy beige head. Nose has a lot of malt, brown sugar, a bit of tree bark, some cocoa nib, perhaps a hint of booze. Flavor is malty, crackery, bread crust, cocoa, hints of booze, something a bit umami too, like roasted mushroom. Smooth finish. Held up well.

Lots of chocolate and nuttiness. I agree with a previous commenter that there is almost a liqueur quality (concentrated chocolate + sweetness) that's here. That said, not much heat from the high ABV present here. Surprised, yet pleased, to find this in the middle of summer in Brooklyn. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Good show for these local guys. They make a great porter and this is a very drinkable, balanced imperial stout. Pours black with great head and lacing. Roast and dark chocolate with some subtle hops. Sweet and bitter finish. Booze well hidden. Hopefully they bring this back and pump it up a little to make something truly great. Tap at Black Squirrel.

Draft at the growler NYC. Bartender told me it was a maibock . Tastes more line a stout. Highly volume. Easy drinking. Decent ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Muddy dark brown/black, with a big tan head. Dark and malty, with lots of belgian yeast character. Taste is belgian yeast, with just a bit of roast dryness. I like it.
