2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Somehow milder tasting than the lighter stout, a bit sweeter, with an distracting smoky bit that seemed out of place. Deserves more character at this strength.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz Bottle. The pour was a very dark brown with a light ruby hue and an average (1-2 finger) cocoa brown creamy head that slowly receded, down to a semi-thick film and medium collar which allowed for some good streaky lacing.
The aroma was of a roasted stale bread malt, resin hops and an earthy yeast with notes of bitter dark chocolate, roasted coffee, dark fruit (prunes), a bit of smoke and a woody alcohol tinge.
The taste was very malty and extremely roasty with a touch of chocolate from the start, becoming rather bitter with a hint of overripe fruit and a bold alcohol presence at the end. The flavor lasted for what seemed like forever, with the roastiness fading away as a harsh alcohol bite hit you in the back of the throat.
Mouthfeel was medium in body and dry in texture with a bold lively carbonation.
Overall this was a very bitter and roasty brew with a big alcohol presence and a decent drinkability, although the overripe fruity taste it possessed was just a bit too much… www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: very dark brown with caramel highlights; rich froth of beige head and average lacing. Aroma: bitter dark and sweet milk chocolate, caramel, roast, vanilla, and coffee. Taste: cocoa powder, coffee, light chalk, wood, brown bread, roasty malts, barest hints of dark fruits and molasses. Finish: dry, slightly bitter, with lingering chocolatey roast flavors. Notes: Darn near a perfect porter, in my opinion. Palate and flavors were perfectly balanced between the rich dark malts and a lively and dry counterpoint. Exactly what a porter should be. Based on this, I will seek out other brews from this company.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2014 22nd January 2012
Opaque black brown beer, small tan head. Softish dry palate. Rich malt, semi dry. Some lactose. A touch of Port Wine and Brandy give this extra dimension. Semi dry finish. Interesting, rich and tasty.
A repeat at the 2014 GBBF. Wildly left field porter with flavours of lavender, spice, perfumey herb and a little spice induced warmth. Interesting stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Opaque brown/black with a generous, but short-lived, tan head, dots of lace. This has a good musty, malty odor that smells of good porter. The taste begins with clean, almost watery, dark toasted malt. Cocoa and coffee, matched by bittering, enter toward the back side of the palate, and linger nicely through an extended finish. A very good porter; not too much cocoa/coffee, nicely balanced. Highly recommended.
