12oz bottle. Opaque brown-black with a rusty beige head. Sweet brown-sugar and chocolate aroma. A pretty big, rugged, Porter. This is quite a nice beer, Creamy, almost milky body. Rich and quite filling, this is a great new addition to the Mid-Atlantic beer scene.

Rated from bottle, but also on draft the night prior.Thick and dark as a porter should be, with an initially frothy tan head that somewhat quickly kicks it. This drinks with a thick viscosity, rich with milk chocolate milkiness and a nice subtle but noticeable bitter bite at the finish. This is a very good porter. (#4451, 1/22/2012).

Finishing on a high note with this excellent porter I have decided to keep tabs on Port City. Since their bottles are relatively affordable, easily accessible around northern Virginia, and well crafted they will make a nice break from Midwestern bottles. If you can only try one Port City beer make it this one.

Aroma / Appearance - Deep inky black fluid sits like an octopus hiding in its own camouflage. A mocha head rests on top like a layer of frosting over a coffee cupcake. Roasted black coffee, chestnuts, chocolate, and strong malts drive home the point that this is not a beer to ignore.

Flavor / Palate - The smoky ham in the background was a little distracting but in character with the rest of the flavors. From black coffee to half and half to hints of cocoa the overall theme is sweet darkness. A veritable bargain at $7.99 a six pack this one is worth checking out if you see it on the shelves or want to do a local for local trade with some northeastern members.

12 oz. bottle as a trade bonus from thorpe429- thanks, Thorpe! Pours an opaque coffee brown with an initially large but quickly descending tan head. Leaves a good deal of lace in the glass. Aroma is surprisingly smoky, with roasted and smoked malts, dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, and a little bit of peat. Flavor follows suit, with smoked and roasted malts, peat, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate, earth, and toasted brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Nice porter.
