3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (8212) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 31, 2012Bottle... Clear, copper ale with no head. Nutty, caramely, praline nose with a tiny splash of sweet sherry. Medium-bodied with tingly carbonation. Malty, nutty, toasted flavor that’s bittered just enough to provide a semblance of balance. Finishes caramely and lightly bitter.

Bottle. Pours a very hazy darker brown color with a tiny off-white head. Nose is slightly malty, with a hint of bitterness from the English hops. Taste is a little bitter, but not overly flavorful. Feels very carbonated. Meh.

12oz bottle pours a hazy, deep garnet amber with some thin, white head. Nose of stale malt, a little cedar, some raisin, slightly oxidized, some plum. Flavor is malty, raisin, orange, cardboard, cracker. Medium, dry finish. Not like any scotch ale I’ve had. A bit too weak.

Chestnut brown ale with plenty of malt flavor but drier, better attenuated than most. A firm bitterness that isn’t overdone. More drinkable than most Scottish-style ales.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3964) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - AUG 16, 2012
Crisp copper coloured body with deep amber glows and a ruby tint, complete with a one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of malt, toffee, light caramel, a hint of nuts and some cardboard. Medium-bodied; Assertive honey flavour with some mead mixed in, a decent amount of malt, some light citrus flavours and a good sweet finish. Aftertaste shows some light complexity around the malt with a little light caramel and a lot of nuttiness on the finish. Overall, a decent Scotch, with more sweetness than expected, less complexity and a little nutty. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 23-May-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 16-August-2012.

12oz bottle from richdorchak, thanks Rich! Pours a clear, copper colored body with a thin, frothy, light tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is medium-light caramel cookie malts, dark fruit esters, some grain, and a light earth. Flavor is light caramel and toffee cookie malts with a light toasty grain, some dark fruit notes, and a light earthiness. A touch of chocolate and roast towards the end before this finishes clean, balanced, and lightly bitter with a soft sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a lighter, but fairly flavorful beer in a style that doesn’t typically offer much. Caramel and toffee cookie malts with some dark fruits, a touch of chocolate and roast, and a light earth to keep things balanced. Clean and easy drinking making this a solid session beer. Not bad at all.
