Like barbecue in a glass, and I mean that in the pleasantest way possible. Has a needed streak of naughty sweetness to make the smoke work, and just enough bitterness to be serious. Politely demands pulled pork.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 mansquito (2506) - Nueva York, New York, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Pizzeria Paradiso, Georgetown tap ($6): Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is lightly smoked roast, with some coffee and barely any chocolate. Taste is, however, underwhelming. No flavor really stands out. Body is far too light. Doesn’t feel like I am drinking a big beer at all. I think that they should have given this one a few more trys before putting this out.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ermahgang (6) - Virginia, USA - MAR 11, 2013 does not count
Smokiest beer I’ve tasted. Definitely a sipping beer. The description of enjoying smoked meats and cheeses in front of a fire is spot on. If you like porter’s this is a special treat. Port City’s Porter is one of my favorites, and this is the porter on steroids.

On tap at Rustico in Alexandria. Served in a snifter. Pours near black. Nose is far too smokey and meaty. Smoked herring. Some roast underneath. Flavor is similar, but more intense on the smoke. A bit more background beer as it warms, but I just couldn’t get into this one.
