COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - J D Wethersppon festival, Autumn 2009.
Tomme Arthur is considered one of the greatest craft brewers in America and has travelled to Shepherd Neame Brewery, Kent, to brew especially for this JDW beer festival. This is a classic example of an American West Coast Extra-Pale Ale, brewed with English barley and no caramel malts, allowing the freshest and brightest hop flavours to really shine through and create a decidedly snappy and dry finish. Hops used: Amarillo, Bramling Cross, Brewers Gold, Phoenix

Clear light-gold beer. Very light hop nose with a trace of pineapple. Dry palate with a soft edge. Decent crisp hops, grassy and spicy. A touch of peach and pineapple at the finish. Bitterish afertaste. Decent hoppy pale ale.

Tasted this at the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in November 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale amber in colour with a thin white head. Tart gooseberry fruit present in the long aroma. Robust and refreshing mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt base gives a lemon drizzle cake base with zesty notes of pink grapefruit. Hop resins provide a full fruity whack to the mouthfeel with New World flavours of pineapple, tangerine and smooth lychees. Finish is dry and citrusy with fragrant hops still present in the palate. A decent American Pale Ale and well recommended.

A Mes rate: Cask at Baker Street ’Sporks.
Mid gold with a decent white head. Awesome Amarillo. Full of tropical fruit, some peach and lychee and really really good supporting malt. Maybe I’d like just a touch more bitterness, but just a touch. Other than that it’s excellent. Excellent tangerine notes in the finish. Really clean considering the amount of hops in it. Resinous but not even close to being sticky. Very good stuff indeed.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2009 The Baron, 06/12/09. Straw draped with lace. Tomato stem and Turkish Delight aroma. Soft and mandarin zesty; dry and sweet, plenty of custard cream biscuit for balance. Resinous greenery on the burp. Beautiful balance of US/UK (but mostly US) hops and malt, and a fresh hop treat I never dreamt would come to Hinckley. BARACK OBAMA.

Cask at Rayners Lane, W’Spoons. Nice golden coloured pour with a fluffy white head. Fresh American hoppy nose. Pleasantly hoppy, citrus fruit, slightly dry taste. Surprisingly complex. Incredibly drinkable. A good effort from Tomme Arthur.

Cask Handpump at the Gaffers Row JDW, Crewe 31/10/2009 Pine hop aroma. White head. Golden coloured and hoppy with a pine flavour. A little dryness and bitterness in a crisp malt finish.

Cask handpump, The Penny Black, JDW, Bicester, Oxon-18-11-09 Pours warm gold in colour with a white head, there is a hint of haze to this, barmaid really struggled pulling this one through it appeared very, very lively. Nice citrussy hoppy aroma. Taste has a pushy citrus (grapefruit) hoppiness about it with a nice layer of sweet malts to balance things out, brisk and breezy sort of beer, you’re sort of expecting it to be more hoppy and zappy than it is, but its actually a very drinkable sessionable hoppy beer., leading to a few hoppy burps. The festival is over but there are still a few festival beers on offer and this much like the others on offer this evening is just £1.39 with my a CAMRA 50p off token. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.7

Cask in the Ealing JDW (Sir Michael Balcon). Dark gold with a lacy white head. Toast and grapefruit on the nose, more citrus on the palate with a good hoppy note, a firm body, a nice underlying bitterness, and a dry-bitter finish. A good strong golden ale.

JDW Rochester. Soft malt with a varied and slightly muddled hop top. Hops grab too much attention with no clarity. A lot of noise for little signal.
