So what’s a Dead Rise? Think lobster boat: V Hull in the front and flat bottom stern. A quick conversion from wheat to rye malt in this old German standard produces unstoppable mouth feel, prolonged malt flavors and banana overtones. Add a heavy hand of Perle hops with a couple extra notches of octane and boom: You get an IPA/Weizenbock mix that’s sure to please.

Tap at Hoptron - hazy gold - nose is heavily sweet, frosting-like, but with spicy phenols to balance, mild banana esters - flavor is equal parts sweet and spicy - quite a bit of clove - light pear and over ripe apple - finish is a bit watery - okay - should be listed as a weizenbock.

Pours a pale straw yellow with fruity estery weisen notes. Banana and clove.

Growler filled at Big Z and consumed later the same day. Pours a hazy burnished gold with a moderate linen white head that lasted through the first two sips and left light lace. The aroma is distinctively wheat with banana and wheat grain. Although not noticeable in the aroma, the rye is present in the flavor, which begins with the same banana and wheat grain as the aroma. After several seconds, some mild rye flavor arises along with a bit of spice. Mild-moderate bitterness at the finish. Fairly smooth on the palate. An interesting beer.

Tap at PJ tasting room - this beer seems to defy style descriptions. Very sweet with an almost creamsicle flavor. Butterscotch with a splash of citrus a touch of grain, wheat and rye and some spice. Smooth bodied. Finish is sweet with a hoppy twist.
