1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Pours a golden raisin with etched whites atop a near excellently clarified brew. Smells oddly like skunked Heineken with a dash of cinnamon, plastic and oxidation. Poor nose. Flavor is bitter up front with some chemical sharpness. Followed up with some sweet crystal malt and a healthy serving of oxidation. Medium bodied with early eager but fleeting hi carb. This beer speaks of elderly characteristics, but I canít really tell. This serving was subpar.

English pales are becoming some of my favorites, and this one is archetypical of the style. I look for smoothness in mouthfeel, maltiness that is reminiscent of but so different than soapiness (if that makes any sense), and a twinge of bitterness to round things off. This one has all three in the right amounts. Very good. B+/A-

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
April 2012, tap. Smells like a sweet fruit - mango/cantaloupe(just want to keep breathing it in). Same fruit on a palate, noticeable bitterness in the aftertaste. Very light and smooth - I could drink a lot of this beer. Fruity for a bitter, but super enjoyable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This beer poured a slightly cloudy dark gold with a big foamy white head and decent lacing Nose of caramel malts, nuts, and spice. Flavor reminds me very much of English bitter and the mouthfeel was almost as smooth as a hand puled cask ale. Overall it was nice and easy to drink, and left me wanting more, always a good sign.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. This beer pours hazy golden orange with a very small off white head. Ron reported that his had a big head but was poured at a warmer temp. Fairly hazy after rolling the bottle. Not a big nose but I got fruit and light spice. The flavor was very much to style. Nice gentle fruit, cinnamon, malt, grain, and cinnamon. At the finish some buttery caramel emerged. Call it toffee. This was quite nice and authentic. Ron has been to the UK and had many bitters there. While a bitter, this was not bitter at all. It was gently subtle and simple. I liked it.

On tap at the brewery. Unpleasant aroma but ok flavor. Slightly sour finish--kind of strange for being at the brewery (as if the line isnít clean).

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
August 18, 2010 - 660ml bottle courtesy of jerc & mabel shared with blankboy and garthicus. Slightly hazy gold with a hint of amber and a smallish off-white fizzy/foamy head. Aroma of cereal grain, that "red" rye sharpness, a hint of alcohol, so dry, slightly acidic herbal bitterness. Solid flavour - tangy, grainy, not boozy, slightly pungent vaguely floral bitterness, and a whisper of some sort of overripe fruit (but not in a bad way, just acidic and sharp). Average body, lively mouthfeel, quick-finishing, leaving a slightly dry, herbal aftertaste; simple and pretty well executed.

Bottle [660ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o j&m. Pours a cloudy copper-gold with an average size semi-lasting white head. Pretty decent aroma, a good amount of floral hops, along with caramel malt and fruit. Flavour hops, fruit, caramel malt a mild bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good, I enjoyed it.
