COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flavors of dark chocolate and roasted malts are complemented by generous quantities of Northwest hops to give this dry stout an assertive but balanced profile. A traditional yeast strain lends further complexity to this rich dark brew.

7/10/07 Bottle, thanks for sharing, Nate. Dark Brown to Black, little head. Coffee and carmel nose, bit of malt with "weird" smell. Foamy off white head. Chocolate and carmel notes, with a very negative twang of lactic sourness. eh.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2007 Dark black, one inch head took time to rise up. Smells of toasted bread. Light bodied. Chocolate notes crescendo at the end with a warm oakey finish.

Bottled. Chocolate coffee aroma, malty sweet with bit of lactic tang. Also a bit of broth and a sour tang, kind of funky. Light sulfur-sewer aroma. Dark black-brown clear with off-white or light tan lacing head. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Starts with roasted grain and chocolate, coffee. Dry. Oddly there is a sulfur-wasabi-kelp taste to this somehow. Finish is mild chocolate bitter. After is mild hoppy bitterness.

22 oz bomber. Deep dark brown hue. Spiraling tan head. Strong coffee aroma. Toasty bready malt notes in the aromas as well. Nutty and cocoa. Medium bodied. Fruity raspberry flavors. Sweet and sour fruit notes. Nice tart flavor. Nice bitter coffee note. Good roast. The fruity tart flavor adds a nice dimension. The finish is dry and roasty with a touch of the lingering sour note. As it warms, the swwet nuance of chocolate starts to stand out. Pleasurable drinking.

Bomber. Pours a deep black, essentially opaque, with a very small dirty-white head. Minimal lacing. Nearly still. Big chocolate nose, with some coffee in there as well. Moderately assertive attack; medium body, no carb, some semi-bold flavor. Lots of coffee and chocolate, too much chalk. Theyíve overdone the dryness here; the puckery coffee flavors, an astringent mid-palate, attenuating aspects of roastiness...they all combine to make a beer thatís just trying to be a black hole on the tongue. Add to all this the fact that the bodyís even a bit watery in spots, and itís not as pleasant as it might be. What others are saying seems to directly contradict most of this, though, so itís gotta be worth a re-rate eventually.

This is a very nice porter, too bad itís suposed to be a stout. Huge chocolate aroma with some liquer. Very light in color and rather thin. Kind of a clash of hops with chocolate flavor and hoppy tin. Not great, but not horrible. Thanks Andre.

This beer pours a mahogany to dark brown color with a nice visible tannish bubbly head and mediocre lacing. The aroma is very chocolatey with notes of brown sugar, heavy wood, possibly a bourbon cask, smoke and vanilla. This is easily the weirdest beer Iíve had in ages and trust me thats a welcome change. Mouthfeel is silky smooth with a very mild milky to milk chocolate mouthfeel and very little in the way of carbonation. Vanilla and brown sugar mouthfeel...thick and rich with an oak agedness to it. A minor hop bite kicks in just before the choco-monster attacks with his milk chocolatey stealth. Muy bueno..dry finish but not overwhelming. Little alcohol presence. MUST have more!

Dark black pour, heavy carbonation and a full upright brown head, not much lacing. The nose is a bit faint with some light smoke and alcohol. The roast is there but not very complex. It seems a bit one, maybe even two dimentional. The flavor is full bodied but a bit flat and starchy on the palate. A bit of alcohol in the tail and more astringent as it drags on. I didnít care too much for this but itís hard to make a dry stout thatís not enjoyable to drink. I know, blasphemy, but I have my tastes.

My bottle is called Port Townsend Stout. Poured with a very dark body that is nearly black. The head is thin and light orange and brown. The aroma is lightly roasted coffee along with some popcorn. The taste has some light toasted peanuts with a very light note of coffee. The body is also very light and fluffy. This is a very smooth stout, but could use a little more oomph. Excellent for a session stout. Received in a trade with Larry Pitonka.
