3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fresh on tap at Port Townsend Brewing. Deep, hazy brown pour with ample cream-colored head. Nose is full of fresh yeast, dark candied fruit, and lightly floral hops. Flavor reveals a rich malt backbone brimming with sweet dark cherries, roasty chocolate notes, and a spicy rye bite to bring up the finish. Mouthfeel was chewy enough to be satisfying, yet thin enough to be extremely drinkable. A good, seasonal, tap-only brew that I will gladly sample whenever it pops up. Growler time!

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Fiddlers.
A disappointment, I fear. Quite dark pour, modest head, strong lacing belies the high ABV. I wouldn’t be looking for a sticky-sweet rye ale, but I’m afraid that’s what this one is. Sticky, alcoholic, almost as if it had been a failed experiment in barrel aging. Not awful, mind you -- my glass went right down just fine -- but I’d been anticipating this one as it crept the on-deck list at Fiddlers, and I was a bit let down once it reached the plate. (That, and it was overshadowed by the superb FW Velvet Stout that I had side by side).

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pint – Eastside Club Tavern – Olympia, WA – Deep nose with lots of rye malt and hops in the build. The flavor was deep with rye malt and the hops where very nice. This was a nice easy drinking rye beer.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Draft at Naked City. Pours murky brown with virtually no head; wispy gray trails of lace sit atop it. Lightly sour nose, not much happening. Watery medium body. Brown bread and a bit of caramel show up on the mid-palate, along with some sour rye bread and resin for the finish. Not much of an effort here.
