Our secret weapon. A fulsome, winsome strong ale. A deep copper tinged brew for the true aficionado, longer fermentation and thrice hopping bring about a complex soft bitterness allied to a malt induced sweetness with the characteristic oily Fuggles hop perfume. Not just for students. Once "stuffed" savour the flavour of a glass as a digestif... True "Aroma-therapy".

Grain: Pale Malt, Roast Barley, Black Malt, Flaked Barley.
Hops: Galena, Nugget, East Kent Goldings.

(Draught at Porterhouse Central on 2008-07-01) Amber and clear. Medium-sized white head. Light and bit sweet nose with alcohol and malts in it. Fulle palate with some carbonation and alcohol. Alchohol, malts, salty liquorice, hops and drien plum in taste. Quite ok as the alcohol doesn’t push through too strongly.

On tap at Porterhouse in Dublin. Had a few pints of this late one Saturday night and it knocked me on my ass. Translucent copper, red with a creamy white head. Aroma was mild with some sweet malts mixed with some fruity hops, nothing jumps out at you. Flavor is well balanced, sweet caramel and grainy malts, cookies and biscuits, mangoes, and sweet citrus fruits. Very easy finish, slightly thick. Strongest beer on tap but maybe the easiest to drink. That combo left me with quite a headache the next day.

Porterhouse Temple Bar.... draught. Good looking copper/amber ale with a thin rapidly dissipating head. Sweet and malty with nice hoppy flavors to balance out the beer nicely. Pounded two of these in a few minutes (on my way to airport) and they went down beautifully. This could be an american pale ale...very nice.

Medium creamy shiny offwhite everlasting head. Amber body with carbonation. Fruity banana malts aroma with strong citric hop notes. A bit stale. Sweet resiny earthy fruity wooden taste. Dry spicy honeyish aftertaste. Slightly artificial, but still nice. (0.2l draft at Porterhouse Temple Bar, Dublin.)

very easy to drink, too easy for a beer this strength. deep amber colour, plenty of hop to balance the alcohol content

Had this on tap at Porterhouse Temple Bar location-it was the strongest of their offering’s on tap. Pours a nice copper with some red amberness that can be seen when held up to the light a bit. White one-finger head that settles away after a bit with little lacing. Smells a bit malty and caramely with some hints of hops too-not bad. The sweet maltiness is the most dominating characteristic but the bitter dry hops provide a nice contrast. Not too complex of a beer, but I like it. The dryness kicks in at the end and that for me is the last part that your mouth is left with-I don’t mind it though. I do think that this is one of the best on-tap Irish beers that I have had here in Ireland, but I can’t drink too much of it though because of the 7% ABV. I’m glad that it’s so close as I’m going to be sure to have more of it.

Draught at Porterhouse Temple Bar. I have to say that the atmosphere of the bar might have positively affected this rating. Deep copper brown w/ thin off-white head. Scent is very toasty and pleasant. Flavor is toasty, fruits, and slightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable beer.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2008 Draft (Porterhouse, Dublin) Deep copper colour, thin tight head. Slightly sickly sour strong fruity/malty aroma. Slightly unsophisticated alcoholic taste. Previously had far worse examples, only rating the best one.
