COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our secret weapon. A fulsome, winsome strong ale. A deep copper tinged brew for the true aficionado, longer fermentation and thrice hopping bring about a complex soft bitterness allied to a malt induced sweetness with the characteristic oily Fuggles hop perfume. Not just for students. Once "stuffed" savour the flavour of a glass as a digestif... True "Aroma-therapy".

Grain: Pale Malt, Roast Barley, Black Malt, Flaked Barley.
Hops: Galena, Nugget, East Kent Goldings.

Spab (2353) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 10, 2013
330 ml bottle from Premier Wine and Spirits. Pours a dark copper colour with modest-sized light tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel and brown sugar, hints of toast and a spicy hoppiness. Flavour is toasty caramel, candied dried fruit, and a surprising spicy bitterness. Body on the heavy side.

ciaranc (847) - Dublin, IRELAND - AUG 10, 2013
330ml bottle. Deep copper, almost brown, frothy off white head. Caramel, nuts, cereal, toasted malt and burnt sugar in the nose, with a hint of perfumy hops. Flavour is sweet caramel offset with an understated English hop bitterness. Quite highly carbonated and big bodied. Finish is dusty malt, bittersweet. A nice example of the style.

Bottle during lunch at Porterhouse at Fraunces Tavern in financial district. Pours clear amber brown with one finger head. Nose if light dusty caramel. Tastes of caramel, toffee, malt, some fruit, dust, and a bitter finish. Fit the venue nicely.

Stronger-tasting than expected with a good head. Preferred their Hophead for taste and flavour, but enjoyed.

The head is robust, body red, brown. It smells hoppy, bitter, fruity. The taste is aromatic, hoppy-fruity, bitter, aromatic, balanced. Great! 13/12/12/13/14/13

Had sooo high hopes into this one but "only" got something what was near a Doppelbock. Deep dark hazelnut in colour, low steady creamy head and smooth body. Nose of malt. Taste of strong alcohol, nuts, torf, whiskey, roses, straw, mild hops and bittersweet chocolate. Easy to drink but just not nice and quaffable enough.

Starting of with a lots of classic ale, loads of hops and some malt. From the beginning a nice one with raisins, caramel and bit of sourness. But the ending is very unpleasant. Bitter, bitter, bitter. Crazy end which I do not appreciate. Still a classy one. t reommend ? I am not sure.

Pours brown (though very clear). Off-white head. Nose of EKG, caramel. Flavour is quite bitter for the style, dust, caramel, great malt strength, hoppy fruitiness. The finish is surprisingly bitter with a hint of alcohol, earth, soap. Good if you’re a fan of EKG.
