Our secret weapon. A fulsome, winsome strong ale. A deep copper tinged brew for the true aficionado, longer fermentation and thrice hopping bring about a complex soft bitterness allied to a malt induced sweetness with the characteristic oily Fuggles hop perfume. Not just for students. Once "stuffed" savour the flavour of a glass as a digestif... True "Aroma-therapy".

Grain: Pale Malt, Roast Barley, Black Malt, Flaked Barley.
Hops: Galena, Nugget, East Kent Goldings.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2013 330ml bottle - bierpost.com - The same quality blend of rich, tasty malts and subtly-dosed quality hops as in Porterhouse’s "Wrassler’s stout" - only, contrary to what the label says, the flavour does not wholly "belie its alcohol content" - with only 7 ABV, the distinct boozy esthers dominate the top of the aroma and almost make this great drinkable recipe into a cautious sipper. Hide the ABVs a bit better and I’m back on board for a full 6 pack. - Have to appreciate the Joycean "tasty drop" pun, though. -- Rerate II/2013: must have gotten a fresher bottle this time (bb24/06/2012): very tasty and none too stingingly added Galena, Nugget and East Kent Goldings make for a delicious ImpStout’ishly fresh fruity nose. Dry aftertaste, noticeable ABV remain. 2nd choice after Wrassler’s!

Cask at Franciscan Well Winter Ale Festival. Not a whole lot going on on the nose. Pours amber red with a thin lingering white head. Tastes of caramel, with strong off-flavour cabbage, lingering sour/bitterness. I know it’s good as I’ve had it many times before, this seems like a misrepresentative bad cask. Will re-rate.

Keg @ The Porterhouse. The pour’s a deep amber color with a small white head. The nose is red apple skin, some caramel, toasted grain, general woody shrubbery. The taste is more red apple skin, fall fruits. Some syrup. Brown bread toast. A bit of peppery spice. Hot, this drinks like a big beer. Full body, slightly sticky. Overall, not particularly complex or interesting.

330ml bottle. Aroma is a dark caramel malt and a touch of booze. Pour is a reddish brown, filtered, moderate tan head. Dark roasty malt and earthy hops. Medium body. Overall, kind of a light barley wine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Farmers Cabinet. Mostly clear dark orange pour. Frothy foamy white head. Feels a bit like a creamy oyster stout. Bitter dark rotted vegetable notes. Some citrus piney hop bite. Dark red fruits. Nice, but not as complex as one would hope.

11.2oz bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours brown with a light beige head. Aroma of caramel and toasted malts with some dough and floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not the best beer, but not bad.

Sample at Porterhouse Central. This brew pours a deep amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of malt, caramel and fruit. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and a some hops in the background. The finish is sweet with a pale malt aftertaste. Decent all around.

33cl bottle thanks to Ingo! Sampled on December 22, 2012. BB 30 12 10.
Hazy copper color, tan head. Sweet, malty, citrus scent, also grainy and some sirup. Malty, dry, grainy, bitter, citrus peel taste. Dry bitter aftertaste, also some hints of chocolate. Spritzy mouthfeel, medium high to high dry bitterness.
Would like it better less bitter and with more residual sugar/sweentess.
