Our secret weapon. A fulsome, winsome strong ale. A deep copper tinged brew for the true aficionado, longer fermentation and thrice hopping bring about a complex soft bitterness allied to a malt induced sweetness with the characteristic oily Fuggles hop perfume. Not just for students. Once "stuffed" savour the flavour of a glass as a digestif... True "Aroma-therapy".

Grain: Pale Malt, Roast Barley, Black Malt, Flaked Barley.
Hops: Galena, Nugget, East Kent Goldings.

Clear amber beer. Fluffy white head. Softish dry palate. Dry malt and dry bittering hops. Palate turns softer and a touch of fruit salad sweets makes an appearance. Finishes dry with some tea. Bitter aftertaste.

330 ml bottle. Pours a beautiful mahogany/red with medium head. Aromas of red fruit, toffee, and malts. Flavours of plums and caramel but hops bitterness is quite strong and sharp.

Dark ruby red with a good off-white head and lace. Aroma: hops, malt, yeast, oak. Taste: initial sweetness precedes a strong bitterness. Hops, malt, oak, currants. Nice bit of warmth from the alcohol and hint of cognac.

Clear dark amber brown with a persistent head covering and streaks of lace. The taste begins with roasted caramel malt, followed through the palate with sour bittering that compliments, only to have the malt re-emerge at the finish. A solid, yet not over-powering brew. Recommended.

330ml bottle pours brown in color with a 2 finger off-white head that leaves some fine lacing on the glass. Aroma is fruity with lots of caramel. Taste is a bold citrus hop bitterness with a nice caramel malt and dark fruit sweetness. Medium to heavy body with some modest carbonation providing some pleasant sensation on the palate. A nicely done English strong ale that is balanced and deserves a tasting.

Tap pour. Dark brown, thick just of white head that lingers. Pine and bitter nose. More pine in front, malt middle, astringent almost grapefruit (but not at all sweet) finish. Digestif is a good way to think about this, skin to an Italian bitter. Your going to have to be ok with bitter to even approach this one.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber to medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly to moderately hoppy (stale herbs, apricot), with light note of unripe peach and black tea. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Not a whole lot in the nose, but it’s reasonably pleasant. A bit sour, but drinkable. Pretty typical Porterhouse quality.

Not a fab of this brew. Thought maybe it was a scotch ale, but i see out falls into the catch all category of strong ale. But I’m struggling to find anything appealing to me other than the alcohol content
