2.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at Franciscan Well Winter Ale Festival. Not a whole lot going on on the nose. Pours amber red with a thin lingering white head. Tastes of caramel, with strong off-flavour cabbage, lingering sour/bitterness. I know it’s good as I’ve had it many times before, this seems like a misrepresentative bad cask. Will re-rate.

Pours a pretty ruby red with a beautiful head that lasts. Light fruity taste with cinnamon and citrus notes. Finishes clean with tea like finish.

Decent beer. Had it on vacation. Worth a try for the high alcohol content, but not for much else.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Too strong alcoholic flavour for an ale, mediocre aroma and rich hoppy aftertaste.

Tap pour. Dark brown, thick just of white head that lingers. Pine and bitter nose. More pine in front, malt middle, astringent almost grapefruit (but not at all sweet) finish. Digestif is a good way to think about this, skin to an Italian bitter. Your going to have to be ok with bitter to even approach this one.

very easy to drink, too easy for a beer this strength. deep amber colour, plenty of hop to balance the alcohol content

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had this on tap at Porterhouse Temple Bar location-it was the strongest of their offering’s on tap.
Pours a nice copper with some red amberness that can be seen when held up to the light a bit. White one-finger head that settles away after a bit with little lacing.
Smells a bit malty and caramely with some hints of hops too-not bad.
The sweet maltiness is the most dominating characteristic but the bitter dry hops provide a nice contrast. Not too complex of a beer, but I like it.
The dryness kicks in at the end and that for me is the last part that your mouth is left with-I don’t mind it though.
I do think that this is one of the best on-tap Irish beers that I have had here in Ireland, but I can’t drink too much of it though because of the 7% ABV. I’m glad that it’s so close as I’m going to be sure to have more of it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at Porterhouse Temple Bar. I have to say that the atmosphere of the bar might have positively affected this rating. Deep copper brown w/ thin off-white head. Scent is very toasty and pleasant. Flavor is toasty, fruits, and slightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable beer.

Awesome in Dublin - not so great in London. Very strong, sweet flavour, lovely colour.
