In tap at the wharf. Dark black with barely perceptible red edges. Aroma is subtle with sweetness and balanced rich malts. Flavour of rich dark malts. Very smooth and creamy. Body is medium to heavy. Finish is sweet first then grainy and bitter from the roasted malt.

Black color, small light brown head. Dry aroma of coffee, milk chocolate and licorice. Dry bitter taste has roast, dark chocolate, licorice, some smoke and vanilla notes. Medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Decent stout, easy to drink.

Great stout! Finally an Irish beer I can be proud of (ok, not too many Irish beers in London other than the obvious one). This is smooth, creamy, a little burnt and bitter with taste of coffee and dark chocolate. I agree it would be even better with a little more alcohol but I’m pretty happy with it the way it is.

330ml pull-cap bottle. Very dark brown color. Tiny ring head. Milky, bready, caramel, roast in aroma. Roast, rye, bready, ashy, alcohol in taste. After first sip it feels so watery, but then roast kicks in. And roast makes it rough. Later that roughness brings out coffee.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2014 Bottle 330ml, BB 16.02.15. Pours pitch black with tan head. The head stays for some time. Aroma roasted malt, dark chocolate, slight tartness. Flavor: creamy, nice roast, dark chocolate, licorice, some sweetness in the background. Long finish starts more as dark chocolate which transforms to ash. Alcohol is slightly noticeable, but maybe it would be really better with even higher ABV. Overall: good one. I really like the finish and the creamy feeling.
Update: had another bottle and didn’t enjoy it as much as last time. Still ok, but as far as imperial stouts go, it’s not really great.

330ml bottle (Drink Shop, Tallinn)
Lovely rich burnt malty stout aroma, but with an almost milky chocolatiness to it. Big and bold in the mouth. Slightly sharp burntness, hinting towards ashiness. Dry finish, dry barky liquorice, again a little ashy, but with some nice bitter dark chocolate too. Slightly too aggressive for something that’s only 7%, I could forgive that in a slightly punchier brew, but then again, that might have more residual sugars, and be gentler. Good, but a bit overdone.

Draft @ The Wharf, Aalborg. 7.0%. As ’Anglo-Irish Imperial Stout’. Pours black with a tan head. Great lacing. Aroma is roasted, slightly tart and with a barbecue/salami note. As it warms, apple comes out. Flavour is roasted and barbecue/salami as well, a bit fruity and with a faint cardboard overtone. Apple as it warms here as well. Finish is roasted and dry, with apple and a slight alcohol note. Overall, it starts out pretty good, but when the apple note kicks in, it messes it up a bit. I actually like that apple note sometimes, but it doesn’t really work here. Still, it’s an okay beer. 09.01.14.

Bottle. Dark brown with a light brown head that leaves ridiculous lace. Aroma is pleasantly briny, fresh sea, light smoke. Flavours are lovely roasted malts with soft edges, smoke, anise. Really terrific!

Small bottle with a finger destroyer cap (is this a beach beer for some people?). Dark brown body, steady tan head. Aroma has sourish milk coffee and some light licorice. Oily mouthfeel, but the sourness is overpowering the roast. Hoppy but somewhat astringent finish. Too astringent and oily to be just 7%. Some more alcohol heat could provide balance and make it more interesting.
