Draft @ The Wharf, Aalborg. 7.0%. As ’Anglo-Irish Imperial Stout’. Pours black with a tan head. Great lacing. Aroma is roasted, slightly tart and with a barbecue/salami note. As it warms, apple comes out. Flavour is roasted and barbecue/salami as well, a bit fruity and with a faint cardboard overtone. Apple as it warms here as well. Finish is roasted and dry, with apple and a slight alcohol note. Overall, it starts out pretty good, but when the apple note kicks in, it messes it up a bit. I actually like that apple note sometimes, but it doesn’t really work here. Still, it’s an okay beer. 09.01.14.

Bottle. Dark brown with a light brown head that leaves ridiculous lace. Aroma is pleasantly briny, fresh sea, light smoke. Flavours are lovely roasted malts with soft edges, smoke, anise. Really terrific!

Small bottle with a finger destroyer cap (is this a beach beer for some people?). Dark brown body, steady tan head. Aroma has sourish milk coffee and some light licorice. Oily mouthfeel, but the sourness is overpowering the roast. Hoppy but somewhat astringent finish. Too astringent and oily to be just 7%. Some more alcohol heat could provide balance and make it more interesting.

Bottle @ home. Aroma is deep roast, some chocolate and light vanilla, some nutty and malty notes in the finish. Flavour is creamy very roasty black malt, tons of liquorice, faint smoky note, light chocolate and vanilla. More roast, ash. Very burny and roasty this one. After a while it’s get a lot better. Very nice.

Bottle. Pours jet black with a smallish ’desert tan’ head. Carbonation is almost nonexistent. Aroma: Pretty straightforward, this one. Lots of biscuity malts, touches of coffee and dark fruits (chokeberry springs to mind), and a wee bit of booze. Taste: a really smooth entrance - more oven-cooked biscuits, some caramelized sugars and fudge. Finish is more rough, showcasing impressive, powerful hops. Aftertaste is prominently long and bitter Good beer! Hops are the strongest part of it, in my opinion. Love the cap, and really hope to try the BA version.

Oh this is good. A comment on the label/bottle itself first - I do like it when brewers can show some humour/individuality through the label. And the only bottlecap like it that I’ve seen. Why aren’t there more like this? Pours an inky black with thin film of creamy head. Aroma of charred toast, espresso, and - I’m never sure what fruit exactly it would be in a beer like this, but it’s...fruity. Taste is big bold, balanced. Mouthfeel is among the best there is. Finish is a touch alcoholic. Yum
