Commercial Description:
Notoriously difficult to brew in Germany and called Shizen beer by German Brewers. Haus Weiss offers everything from a classic wheat beer; subtle banana flavour touching on mango.

Thier wheat beer was actually pretty nice. Pours a perfect hazy gold with a nice fluffy lasting white head, some lacing. Aroma is lemony (an dnot jsut cuz they thew a lemon in there) yeasty, banana and lots of phenols like clove and vanilla. Flavor is wheaty, citrus, lemon zest, and slightly tart in the end. Nice full body and mouthfeel though.

Light yellow colored, little vanishing white head. Fine banana and fenols with some sweetness, rich and good aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is even better than aroma: banana, sweetness, spices and yeast come up, aftertaste is crispy with with lasting banana and spices. Fine weisse!

A pint of Oyster Stout under my belt, I decided to call for something lighter and the Haus Weiss was just what I needed. Poured a rather uninspiring cloudy golden hue and topped of nondescript white foam, this one wasn’t after good looks. The aroma, however, was replete with sweet scents and exciting memories of my childhood. The artificial but always Proustian fragrances of Haribo’s Fraises Tagada and Bananes are unmistakable and dominate beside bubble gum, wheat and subtle lemon zest. Apparent again on the tongue, estery banana is prominent alongside bubble gum, wheat, green apple and chalk. The lightly acidic and well carbonated texture furthers the sugarcoated sensation. Reminiscent of the birthday parties of my youth, days when my parents would be lenient on my candy intake (or weren’t there to stop me), this beer is a real treat for both mind and palate.

Draft at Porterhouse Central, Dublin. A wheat beer to be envied. Peachy and lemony. Smooth grain and the proper citrus edge.

Lovely golden colour, beautiful frothy white head. Very smooth beer that tastes mildly of banana with a strong wheaty aftertaste. Good from both Porterhouse Central and North.

20/05/06 Porterhouse Central Dublin. Muddy looking pale straw body with very little head. Strong cloves on initial taste then bubble gum, zesty and mushy banana. Good.

Banana and wheat are both strong and well-balanced with accents of clove spiciness and some hints of vanilla and coconut in the aroma. Opaque yellow body is topped by a decent and lasting, bright white head. Overly sweet banana flavour with plenty of slightly sour wheat character and surprisingly stron bitterness in the finish. Spiciness emerges in the aftertaste and lingers on the tongue. Crisp, light body with strong, lively carbonation. Seemingly very well made but not so much to my taste. Sampled on tap at the brewpub in Temple Bar (May-06).
