COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with an oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

Clear amber body, lasting white head. Malts, hay and moderate citrus on the nose. Quite strong, resinous bitterness in the taste, sourish, citric aftertaste. Full bodied and dry on the palate.

Keg at Porterhouse, Covent Garden. Amber/copper, almost clear with a slight beige/khaki head. Caramel malt, resin and orange peel in the scent, with a hint of peppercorn. Sweet malty taste with some nice sticky hops.  Disappointingly short finish. Bitter lagery aftertaste. Too cold and too kegged, but there’s bags of potential here.

Bottle at lumskebugten. Aroma of citrus hops. Taste starts with fresh citrus, grapefruit, bitter of hops - then the roasted malt takes over; caramel and nuts. Finish very bitter and dry.

Aroma is roasted malts, honey clove and light earthiness. Taste is sweet malts, honey, clove, citrus, and yeast. Pretty typical. Appearance is a clear gold with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

33cl pulloff bb 10/2016. Obviously a new recipe, listing not only 5,0% ABV, but also use of Galena, Nugget, Cascade, Centennial - exit Hallertau Northern Brewer? - Fresh herbal aroma of green grass and melissa, mint and damp wayside herbs. More citrus rind and APA hop nuances in taste on a somewhat more yeasty than usual APA body. Minty fresh finish. Well done.
