COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with an oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

(Bottled) the nose is fatty and syrupy , with sticky hops and woody aftershave intertwined with smells similar to a musty cabin located in an isolated forest .... A large beige head takes over a tulip , above deep ass copper .
rich aromatic hops , sticky and cloying , rather woody and dry too ..faint caramel vibes .rather like the texture of DIPA minus the booze .

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, red-gold with a moderate, foamy white head. Aroma holds some wet pine, berries, toast, caramel and light grass. Nice flavor, if a bit wimpy. Light to medium sweet with some resinous pine, ripe orange citrus, toasty malts, light dirt and grass. Light bodied with average carbonation. Pretty smooth. Light to medium sweet to finish with bready, lightly toasty malts, some mild pine that’s slightly oily, very mild caramel, some faint citrus rind. Some soft but lasting gritty hops, like dirt, grapefruit rind and grass. It’s an OK APA. Good and drinkable, but it doesn’t have much kick.

Draught at Old Brick’s Inn, Jyväskylä. Amber color. Very citrusy aroma. Bitter, nutty and citrusy flavor with lemon, pine and hard bitterness in finish. Medium body. Like a typical American IPA but with less alcohol. Fair amount of character for this strenght. If the bitterness were smoother, this would be a very sessionable.

February 15, 2011. Shared by garthicus with blankboy and me. 330ml bottle. Clear and bubbly orange/amber with a smallish frothy off-white head. Smells juicy, not too grainy, like cutting a grapefruit and the smell as the juice and pith droplets fill the air - very herbal and citric. Taste is background rye grain, citrus zest and herbal / low level resin bitterness - hardly an alcohol, mostly just bitter. Average body, solid carbonation, a bit astringent, finishes a little squeaky - a very nice drinking beer, pints are called for!
