COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with an oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

Clear amber colour with a slightly laced appearance. Very big aroma, considering I thought this was over filtered. Showing big hoppy notes --> pine cone and slight citrus goodness with a malted/caramel like backbone and a hint of funk. the palate is bitter, medium bodied, slight malted/caramel like backbone, again, with a dry hopped finish. it surprisingly expressive givin’ the style and clarity of the beer as well as the somewhat low alcohol level. it is a decent brew, just not worth the big bucks.

330 ml bottle with tear-off cap, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Malts are pale, crystal, wheat and black. Hops are Pilgrim, Nugget, Cascade and Centennial. Orange to amber colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity / citrussy American hops. The fairly dry flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, with grapefruity and resinous notes, and a sharp bitterness in the finish.

330ml bottle. Clear amber/copper pour with off-white head that leaves a little lace. Citrus dominates the nose with a good caramel backbone. There’s really nothing else going on there. A little strange on the palate. Caramel comes out first and then a strange pine and soap hoppiness comes along. Finishes with a weak bitterness.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2012 Bardzo dobre i wytrawne ale z Irlandii. Mocno nachmielone i w aromacie także dominują przeróżne chmiele. Nawet śmiało go można przyrównać do najlepszych IPA

Cask@Porterhouse temple bar Hazy amber with fluff off-white head. Very resinous nose with some orange. Rich citrus hops and robust bitterness balanced by sweeter malts. This was a great pint.

Medium beige head. Hazy opaque brown body. Perfumy resiny freshly cut wood aroma with floral notes. Very vivid and clear. Dry wooden resiny taste with floral notes. Mid-bodied. Sharpish chalky mouthfeel. Dry resiny floral aftertaste with citric mealy notes. Nice, drinkable, full of flavour, and very fresh. (0.3l draft at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen.)

[Bottle from Beers of Europe that Jim shared with me - cheers!] Deep amber with a moderate white head. Spicy red berries up front with a twang of grapefruit, then some bread and butterscotch. The hefty bitterness in the finish is perhaps a little cardboard-y, but nevertheless this is pretty decent stuff.
