In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with an oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

It’s beautiful orange-red/copper with a creamy, lasting head. The aroma is fruity with notes of citrus and malt. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of citrus, fruit, caramel, and the finish is dry with a light bitterness. It’s refreshing and charming.

01-MAR-2011, bottle @home, from "Magasin". Orange looking with lasting beige head. Nose is hoppy in a fruity way. Grape fruit, hmm! apricots? and tangerine. Taste is on the fruity side as well. Don’t get me wrong here, it is hoppy bitter all right it just has much more going on. I have had two of Porterhouse brews lately but this is the best so far. Light in body, quite malty though. Fantastic pale ale. I cannot believe it is from Ireland:-)
