In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with an oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

Clear amber color with foam head. The smell is bit bitter. The taste is bitter and tart, but have a roundish malty sweetness, but it doesn’t fit completely. Too bitter and tart in the aftertaste. Good base, but a little sloppy crafted.

Clear amber color with big head. Aroma of citrus, grassy floral hops and malts. Taste is bitter, piney, toasty malt body, dry. Bitter finish, smooth silky mouthfeel with a rather high carbonation. A mixture between a classic bitter and an American Pale Ale with some nice piney aspects. Really more a bitter than an APA, the aroma hop profile is too shy.

330 ml bottle from Miorge-Mihoublon, Arlon, Belgium Not an intense aroma but fruits and pine are noticable with a slight ceral aroma. Pours a nice translucid copper. Taste focuses on bitterness. Maybe I have had this beer in the fridge a bit too long. Pine citrus and hops are most of what I taste whitout any subtle touches. It has a thin palate with a nice carbonation. The finnish is not as dry as I expected. Overall a pretty good beer !

330ml bottle from Saveur-Biere.com. Pours clear amber with medium foamy head. Light malty character with floral hops, light citrus and a pronounced bitterness. Not particularly hoppy for this day and age but when it was first brewed, maybe so.

On tap at The Porterhouse, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Nose is very restrained, just a bit of floral hops. Flavour is quite bitter, with astringent hops and not much else. Boring but okay. Meh.

Orange golden color. The beer is fizzling lively. In too if the there floats s layer of white soft foam. The beer has a strong smell of citrusy hops, so strong, it reminds me of citrus soap. The taste is intend and perfect. It has a strong citrusy hop aroma which tastes really gentle. All flavors are in balance. The finish is nice and bitter. Perfect.

On tap at Porterhouse Central. Pour is amber/yellow with a faint white head that fades quickly. Aroma and flavor of grass, pine needles, herbal notes, resin, and slight citrus. Finish is very hoppy, not very well balanced at all.
